Tonight, in a press conference in Tokyo, The Pokémon Company revealed the newest titles in the long running series, but they are not exactly what you might have been expecting.
Instead of the titles bringing with them a new generation, like many fans expected, instead a few titles were revealed. First was Pokémon Quest, a title for both the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. Quest is a Minecraft styled design, focused on Kanto region creatures, with Pokémon that can be modified with multiple items to help guide their growth.
This title is designed with younger players in mind, and is also easy for newcomers to the franchise to pick up. Quest is actually being released tonight, so you can see what you think!
The next game revealed were actually dual titles: Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, for Nintendo Switch. Remakes of Pokémon Yellow Version, Let’s Go is a fully rendered 3D title that can be played with a single joy-con controller, as the capture mechanic is similar to the one in Pokémon Go and the connection doesn’t stop there. The two games are very tied together, with the ability to transfer Pokémon between the two and even pass presents to other Go players. Additionally, using a second joy-con, a friend can join as another trainer for co-op battling, exploring, and capturing using the new mechanic.
An optional control scheme is available, an actual responsive Poké Ball that can be used to capture and transfer Pokémon, but can also hold a Pokémon to be carried around with the player throughout the day. When not loaded, it will make a cry and signal similar to the Pokémon Go Plus offered previously. Take a look at the trailer below, it’s definitely worth seeing for yourself. Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee will release November 16th 2018.
But if you’re a long time fan and feel left out, don’t worry. It was also confirmed a core series title is still in production, and is being targeted for release in the back half of 2019. Presumably, this will take place in a new region and have new Pokémon per tradition. In fact, after the presentation, it was hinted that Let’s Go will have a reveal of a new Pokémon.

While this might not be exactly what some people were expecting (though some leaks indicated this very thing), it really does seem like some exciting things are coming down the way for the Pokémon series.
