The Walking Dead panel opened with one of the most epic new trailers to premiere for the show. Watch it below and revel in its awesomeness.
Great, huh? As seen from the trailer, there is quite a lot in store for us in Season 3 of The Walking Dead. It’s action-packed and intense, which is the opposite of how the last two seasons have been. The faster pacing and increase in action was pointed out and emphasized repeatedly throughout the panel. If the trailer didn’t drive that fact home to you, then the panelists sure did.
So who was at the panel? Andrew Lincoln (Rick), Sarah Wayne Callies (Lori), Norman Reedus (Daryl), Laurie Holden (Andrea), Steven Yuen (Glenn), and Laura Cohan (Maggie), Danai Gurira (Michonne) and David Morrissey (The Governor) were the cast members that joined Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, executive producers David Alpert and Gale Ann Hurd, Greg Nicotero, and showrunner Glen Mazzara. It was a full panel and each one had some great insight to share on the upcoming season and their characters. Lincoln talked about how Rick has changed and how he’ll incorporate that change into the next season. Newcomers Gurira and Morrissey discuss their important new roles in the series. Gurira’s Michonne looks kick-ass and great, definitely a character I’m looking forward to learn more about. Morrissey plays the Governor of Woodbury. I haven’t read the comics, so I’m not completely sure what to expect from him. But his presence in the trailer is duly noted as mysterious and a tad menacing.
Some fun parts of the panel are when a couple young girls gushed with love for actor Steven Yuen, who blushed and wasn’t sure how to respond to their affections. At one point, moderator Chris Hardwick (The Talking Dead) threatened to throw Yuen into a Twilight panel. More questions asked if the show was going to remain very faithful to the comic books, the panelists didn’t reveal much though. It’s something that we’ll have to wait to see. Finally, the last question asked was why the women on the show were written to be “so scary” and why they can’t get things done themselves. The questioner gave Lori telling Rick to kill Shane as an example. Mazzara said that is a good idea and that maybe [the women of the show] will. Sarah Wayne Callies then cut in, defending her character so assertively that she actually made me understand Lori in a way I hadn’t considered before. Callies claimed that Lori tried to work out the situation with Shane in all the ways that she could. It got to the point where she couldn’t handle him anymore. Frankly, no one could have really handled him anymore. So she told Rick to watch his back, not kill him. As we know, that led to stand-off, and as Callies said, “The best man won.” I was very impressed with that answer, and it was such a great way to end to the panel.
