Last night, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association held its 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards. It was a meaningful night for many, especially for some of the “underdog” nominees for which audiences everywhere were rooting and even for esteemed actors and filmmakers that had some tough competition.
The 2016 GG’s marked the last year Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm could take home an award for his work as Don Draper, the year USA’s fantastic drama-thriller Mr. Robot – that premiered only a few months ago – and its cast were up for three awards, and the year a sci-fi film picked up a Best in Comedy win. The winningest of the evening was Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant, which nabbed Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Actor – Drama (to Leonardo DiCaprio) and Best Director.
Even with the prestige and recognition aside, the 2016 Golden Globe Awards ceremony was quite eventful. From Lady Gaga’s (literal) run-in with Leo DiCaprio to Ricky Gervais’s is-he-or-isn’t-he-drunk monologues that somehow were both awkward and insulting and then to Taraji P. Henson’s fantastic and soon-to-be iconic acceptance speech, the night was a whirlwind. Relive it all by checking out the official TYF Twitter account, where Luciana Villalba, Gabrielle Bondi and Ryan Gibbs live-tweeted the ceremony.
Until 2017!
