Sherlock: The Abominable Bride Get’s First Full Length Trailer

With filming of season four not beginning until Spring 2016, fans of the BBC series Sherlock have a ways to wait before their favorite, sleuthing duo are back on their screens in the modern day iterations we’ve come to care about. However, they’ll only have to wait a few short months for a Holiday special which will see the two characters in the time period that Arthur Conan Doyle wrote them in.

Adding to the footage that we’ve already seen, the trailer is oddly lopsided in tone, swinging from tongue and cheek humor (what with the deer stalker hat and “it’s the 19th century” jab) and actual, mysterious intrigue, and hopefully the special itself will lean more on the latter.

Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit) return as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in the acclaimed modern retelling of Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic stories. But now our heroes find themselves in 1890s London. Beloved characters Mary Morstan (played by Amanda Abbington), Inspector Lestrade (Rupert Graves) and Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs) also turn up at 221b Baker Street.

Airing on January 1st in both the U.S. and U.K., it will also be available to see in theaters January 5th and 6th with extra footage. Take a look at the footage below and let us know in the comments if you’re excited for the period change, or if you wish they’d hurry up and make with the modern day version of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson that we’ve already grown to know, especially with the season three finale tease of Moriarty.
