Today’s Shadowhunters panel at New York Comic Con has been eagerly anticipated by fans of Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series. Rebooting the TMI series for television is a good move as the story is much better suited for TV than it is for film, obviously. I was excited to watch the first footage to see what director/producer McG does with the material. Watch the new trailer that premiere yesterday below:
It took me a couple views to get over some of the bad acting and hokey effects, which I sincerely hope are much more polished by the time the show premieres. Today at NYCC, the cast revealed the opening scene from the series, which in my opinion is much better than the trailer, let’s us see our favorite characters at work. Yeah, it’s still a bit campy, but I hope the show doesn’t take itself too seriously and has fun with the world Clare created. Watch the opening scene in the videos below:

And finally, this teaser/intro video is probably the best thing I’ve seen from Shadowhunters so far:

Based on the bestselling young adult fantasy book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, “Shadowhunters” follows 18-year-old Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and her best friend, Simon. Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold.
Shadowhunters premieres Tuesday, January 12th at 9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT on Freeform. (Freeform is ABC Family’s new name, which I still don’t understand.)
