Next, we were introduced to the cast and producers of Fear the Walking Dead, a prequel to the hit show. Fear the Walking Dead takes place in Los Angeles at the start of the zombie outbreak. The showrunner emphasizes how “tonally different” this show will be from The Walking Dead, focusing a blended family who are dealing with their own personal struggles as they try to understand what is slowing unraveling around the world. Watch the trailer, which premiered at Comic-Con.
Fear the Walking Dead will premiere its six-episode first season on August 23, 2015. Cast members Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Lorenzo James Henrie, Ruben Blades, Mercedes Mason, showrunner Dave Erickson, and producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Dave Alpert, and Greg Nicotero were in Hall H to discuss the new show. They introduced us to their characters and situations. Not much else could be said, since the cast haven’t filmed anything beyond the first episode yet. That was a bit of bummer, seeing that I’m finding this show to be an interesting change to the zombie formula. Also, there are no plans to have the characters from both shows meet, seeing as they’re on opposite sides of the country.
Here are some highlights from my live-tweeting of the panel. You can also watch the full panel in the video below.
Prominent Latino cast for #FearTheWalkingDead. Yay for #diversity in TV.

They chose LA as the setting for #FearTheWalkingDead bc it's a place of reinvention, a theme that runs through the characters.
