What fresh hell is this?
Take the creator of American Horror Story and Glee. Add today’s hottest young stars and the original “scream queen,” Jamie Lee Curtis. Set them in a college show and you already have a good idea what you’ll get with Fox’s Scream Queens.
Ryan Murphy’s new series focuses on the fictional Wallace University as it’s rocked by a series of murders from a killer wearing a red devil-like mask. At the center of the story is the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority house run by Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts) who rules KKT “with an iron fist (in a pink glove),” according to the show’s official synopsis.
The 30-second teaser trailer doesn’t reveal much else but gives quick glimpses of stars Curtis, Roberts, Diego Boneta, Ariana Grande and Lea Michele (in a huge departure from what we were used to seeing on Glee). Also, there are a lot of screams both from queens AND kings.
As any Murphy fan knows, his series tend to lose sight of their purpose within just a few episodes. It will probably be the case with this show as well but that won’t stop anyone from tuning in. The dark comedy elements, ’90s horror movie tropes, and the quirky charm of any Murphy-produced show add some extra layers of interest even to the most skeptical viewers.
But, if the first season isn’t really your thing, that should not stop you from tuning into the second (assuming of course, it gets picked up for the 2016-2017 season). Much like American Horror Story, Scream Queens will focus on a completely different story each year. The 15-episode first season will air Tuesdays this fall on Fox.
