We mentioned that a possible TV show revolving Candace Bushnell’s latest series, The Carrie Diaries, may be in the works, and it looks like it’s a “go” for now! The CW network has ordered the pilot for The Carrie Diaries, a prequel to the infinitely popular HBO series & movies Sex and the City. The Carrie Diaries follows Carrie Bradshaw as a young woman in the 1980s, dealing with high school and moving to New York City for the first time. The series’ pilot was written by Amy Harris, who wrote for the original SATC. The show is being produced by Gossip Girl and O.C. producers Stephanie Savage, Josh Schwartz, in addition to Len Goldstein and Candace Bushnell.
So far, there are two books in The Carrie Diaries series. I have read the second book, Summer and the City, and adored it. I would prefer that the series starts with the second book since that is when Carrie moves to New York City the first time. In the first book, she’s dealing with high school drama in Connecticut, which I honestly think wouldn’t be as interesting as her time in New York, especially because she doesn’t meet the iconic characters who become her friends until NYC.
I’m very much looking forward to seeing how this show turns out. As an SATC fan, I’m happy to see these characters come back to the small screen. I also trust the producers behind the show. I’m a Gossip Girl and O.C. fan too, so it’s great to see Savage and Schwartz backing this show as well. Now, they just need to get the perfect cast. The cast for this show will make it or break it. Whoever they choose will be reprising the roles of such beloved and iconic characters, and I sincerely hope that they find the right girls that can pull off the same amount of chemistry the original cast had. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of any young actress that will fit any of the roles well. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
What do you think of a SATC prequel? Sound off in the comments.
