TV News: Justin Timberlake announces the launch of MySpace TV

He might have been part of The Social Network and you know he was part of that awesome 90’s band ‘NSYNC, but Justin Timberlake beyond being an actor and singer, is also the Co-Owner of MySpace in case some of you didn’t know. At the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show, Timberlake made an appearance at Panasonic’s press conference to announce the venture between Panasonic and MySpace to bring you a new social video channel: MySpace TV.

MySpace, already owning more than 42 million songs, 100,000 music videos, will also feature news, reality channels, sports, movies as well as broadcast and on-demand content. It doesn’t stop at being a standard television experience for viewers, in fact MySpace TV will enable viewers to chat about what they’re watching, while they watch it and invite their friends to chat with them all at the same time. The purpose for the platform is to integrate social media and television, and they are also planning on releasing apps for smartphones so you can sync everything in no time.

MySpace co-owner Justin Timberlake added:

“We’re ready to take television and entertainment to the next step by upgrading it to the social networking experience. Why text or email your friends to talk about your favorite programs after they’ve aired when you could be sharing the experience with real-time interactivity from anywhere across the globe? As the plot of your favorite drama unfolds, the joke of your favoriteSNL character plays, or even the last second shot of your favorite team swishes the net, we’re giving you the opportunity to connect your friends to your moments as they’re actually occurring. This is the evolution of one of our greatest inventions, the television. And, we no longer have to crowd around the same one to experience it together.

In my opinion we will have to wait and see since MySpace nowadays has become rather obsolete how is this venture with Panasonic going to bring it back to the social media arena now that Facebook and Twitter are around and dominating mostly everything. Unless they release exclusive content and shows that people really REALLY like, then this will be a success, otherwise I don’t see people forgetting about live-tweet a show on Twitter to go do it on a Panasonic TV.
