Queen Elsa goes on a journey to find her sister, Anna. But as she enters a new land, her fears of an unfamiliar area start to surface. She builds a huge ice fort, similar to her ice castle, to block her from the outside. However, her ice cave has stopped the power. Everyone is in a panic and they call on Emma to save the day. Once she enters the ice cave to meet Elsa, the cave walls close in and both of the ladies are trapped inside. The ice cold temperature proves to not be an issue for Elsa, but are a challenge for Emma. Now, it is a battle between life and death.
While the power is out, the leadership power in town has now shifted to Mary Margaret. She is frazzled and completely stressed out – as if she wasn’t already, being a mother and all. Her first challenge is to get the generator working again. At this point in time, she is filled with anxiety, and I do not blame her. I hate when people are breathing down your neck and well, she has three doing just that.
Earlier in the episode, Henry is excited to see his mother. In the hopes of bringing her spirits back up, he puts together a package of goodies, but when a note tells him that she wants to be left alone, he immediately shuts down. There is nothing that breaks my heart more than a mother who does not want to see her child. I understand she just needs some time alone, but do you seriously have to pull on my heart strings to do so!? Seeing the Evil Queen so heartbroken, brings out a side of her that many do not see, a side filled with hurt, sadness, and heartache. I feel for her! But let’s hold our breaths because behind the good, evil sure is lurking around.
But the distance cannot hold Henry back any longer. With true determination, he goes to his mother’s house and knocks and yells at her through the door. He proclaims how much he cares for her and how much he is a part of this family, too, and will never leave her side. Any broken heart can be mended with the love of a family member, and this moment proves it. Regina decides to open the door and hugs her son. A moment that literally awed me. In this crazy, magical world there are still those mini happily-ever-afters.
So where oh where can Princess Anna be? She is off in her quest trying to get answers – ones that she believes her sister needs. We find her in the Enchanted Forest where she meets David. Anna pretends to be someone else, but little does she know that David knows a lot more about her than she thinks.
Still in the frozen ice cave, Elsa uses her strength and power to get them out of there before Emma dies. Emma is saved and finally gains back some warmth. Now the mission is set to help Elsa find her sister. So far this season, I love how Elsa’s character remains true to the movie. Her fears and anxieties seem to play a huge role in her life. There is more room for development that we did not see in the movie. I understand that the TV show is a completely different entity than the movie, but I cannot help it! Elsa recounts her past and finds comfort in knowing she is not the only one with magical powers. Even though her sister does her best to understand, it takes one with powers to truly understand the whole picture.
When Princess Anna thinks David can help her, we now see that he could use the help as well. With Bo Peep hot on the trail, she stirs up some drama with David and his mother. Demanding her money or their life, it is a battle that David has to face and fight. Luckily with Anna’s kind spirit and awesome sword fighting skills, she decides to stick around and teach him how to sword fight. It is because of Anna’s spirit, determination, and huge heart that her character is so appealing to me. Plus, a girl who has some awesome sword fighting skills is someone you do not want to mess with. Overall, she complements her sister’s personality so well, and that bond has a balancing motion that ebbs and flows.

Judging from David’s success, it looks like Anna’s lessons paid off! David has not only gained the courage that he needed, but he has gained a close friend. But with no idea what her next step should be, Anna looks to David’s mother for some help. She writes down the name of the person whom Anna should seek for help: Rumple. Now, was this all planned? Was Rumple being very sneaky? I am probably being too much of a skeptic right now, but I guess we shall see in the following episodes what’s to come.
I thought that this episode was moving, and liked that there was more character development. The overall plot of the episode did not seem as overwhelming compared to the first episode. Also, this episode left some questions unanswered, which always leaves me wanting more. We are led to believe that Elsa is the only one with her type of powers; little does she know that she is not the only one. Elizabeth Mitchell guest stars in the next episode of Once Upon a Time. It looks like trouble has only begun! Can I just say how much I am loving the endings to each of the episodes!? I know we are only two episodes in, but Once Upon a Time is nailing those endings! It gives a chilling (pun intended) plot twist, and I am so looking forward to Elizabeth Mitchell’s character. It looks like Elsa is not the only one with snow-like powers after all!
