The 90’s always bring fond memories. They were different, yet great times. Sure, there was no such thing as DSL or Wi-Fi, but TV was thriving back then. There was no DVR, but we could record our favorite TV shows with VCR tapes. Tell that to a 10 year-old right now, and they’ll think us millennials are ancient!

To comfort our aging hearts, TYF has brought you a top 10 of some of the great TV Shows from the 90’s! Narrowing this list down was a mission in itself!

Comment below on what were your favorite TV shows back then!

1. Friends-NBC (1994-2004)

Ten seasons, 10 years since the last episode aired. Yet, fans continue begging for a Friends reunion. To say that Friends wasn’t a pop culture phenomenon would be a crime! This circle of pals living in a New York apartment broke out of the U.S boundaries and became a sensation all over the world! The show that introduced us to the lovely Jennifer Aniston was shown in over 100 countries. The cast lived up to the show’s name and truly became the closest of friends off screen. They even agreed to collective negotiations meaning they all would receive equal pay. A test of true friendship down in Hollywood!

2. Fresh Prince- NBC (1990-1996)

Will Smith played a fictional version of himself as a mischievous kid from Philly who is shipped off to live with their rich aunt and uncle in Bel-Air, California. His street smarts clashed with his fancy-shmancy relatives at times, but Will always remained himself. Every member of this family was loveable, even dear Geoffrey the butler. We are just so grateful to this show. Why? Because it introduced us to The Carlton! Dance was forever changed.

3. Sabrina, The Teenage Witch- ABC/ The WB (1996-2003)

We weren’t sure if we’d ever get to see the witty Melissa Joan Hart again after Clarissa Explains It All ended. But, only two years later, we found her playing Sabrina, a teenager who finds out she’s half witch and possesses super powers. Sabrina really expanded over the years as it got an animated version of the show, videos games, and as well as three TV movies. Many characters came and went yet faithful Salem the cat remained, he was hilarious! Peep young Ryan Reynolds guest starring in one of the episodes, that hair!

4. My So-Called Life- ABC (1994-1995)

Most of us were quite young when this show aired. It didn’t even air for a whole year. It’s on this list because it was a show that tackled important issues not in an one-episode-special but throughout the cycle of the show. Topics discussed ranged from teenage alcoholism, adultery, school violence, homophobia, and drug use. Pretty heavy stuff to address back in the 90’s. This was also probably why the show was cancelled so quickly. My So- Called Life, though very short lived, has become a critically acclaimed cult classic.  Having caught reruns years later on The N, I feel the show deserved to be on this list for its cutting edge approach. Not to mention for casting Jared Leto and Claire Danes as a couple in all their teenage glory, pre-awards-winning glam.

5. Sister, Sister – ABC/The WB (1994-1999)

Twins being adopted and separated at birth, how weren’t we going to get hooked on that plot? Tia and Tamera Mowry grew on us quickly, and it was hard to pick your favorite twin. The show covered all the things one wishes they could do if they had a twin, such as taking each other’s exams. Having Ray and Lisa living together as separate adoptive parents was a different family setting that hadn’t been shown on TV before. The family also included the pesky neighbor, Roger, who apparently wasn’t much desired at his own home. Even though the girls were always yelling “GO HOME ROGER,” they loved him just as much as we did. Roger was played by Marques Houston, who later turned into an R&B artist and also starred in one of the best dance movies, You Got Served.

6. Wayans Bros.- The WB ( 1995-1999)

The Wayans Family is a great and talented family, but it was in the Wayans Bros. that we got to get a better look at Shawn and Marlon. They play brothers who live in an apartment in Harlem and own a newsstand in the lobby floor of a building where their father, Pops, owns a restaurant too. It was in this TV show where we got to see the Marlon’s comedic chops and hilarious faces. It was a preview to the brothers’ great chemistry as a comedic and acting duo before we got to see them in their hit roles in White Chicks.

7. All That- Nickelodeon (1994-2005)

All That was like the SNL for kids and teenagers in the 90’s. The theme song, sung by TLC, had the ability to impulse you to jam along doing different poses in slow motion. Yes, you weren’t the only who did that! This show ran for 10 seasons and gave us incredibly talented comedians who blossomed into adulthood. Some of the great acts that All That introduced us to are Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, Amanda Bynes, Gabriel Iglesias (bet you didn’t remember that), and Nick Cannon! Some of their great sketches were Everyday French with Pierre Escargot, Good Burger and Ask Ashley. All That’s musical guests at the end of show were also always on point!

8. The Amanda Show – Nickelodeon (1999-2002)

We met Amanda Bynes on All That, when she was only 10 years old but she outshone and held her own among the older kids, enough to get her own TV Show. As far-fetched and sometimes cheesy the sketches were, the show was able to make it funny enough to get a good laugh out of us. Besides Popper Pants, Judge Trudy, The Girls Room, and  Hillybilly Moments, the show gave us Drake Bell and Josh Peck who together later turned into a sensation of their own. That’s enough to bring in the dancing lobsters!

9. 7th Heaven – The WB (1996-2007)

Before 19 Kids and Counting, the largest family on TV was the Camdens; 7 kids plus all the husbands/girlfriends/strangers they took in. 7th Heaven is where we first heard of Jessica Biel, future Mrs. Timberlake. We even had Haylie Duff and Ashlee Simpson sneak into the family for quite a few episodes. As children of a Protestant minister, they didn’t always have it together; actually most of the time they were a total teenage mess. But their family was unconditionally supportive and that was refreshing to see when putting in the religion element. 7th Heaven is the longest- running series on what was The WB, and to date is the longest- running family drama in television history! And for all you Teen Wolf fans out there, did you know that Tyler Hoechlin (Derek Hale) played Martin Brewer for  some time on 7th Heaven?

10. Boy Meets World- ABC (1993-2000)

I have saved the best for last. You didn’t think I would forget Boy Meets World, right? My obsession with this show has continued on into my young adult years and though I’ve seen many of the episodes countless times—it never gets old! I mean, I tear up watching the final episode just about every time. Chronicling the life events of Cory “Cornelius” Matthews and his best friend Shawn Hunter, BMW has taught us life lessons! Two things we wish we could have: a friendship like Shawn and Cory, a relationship like Cory and Topanga, and a caring professor and mentor like Mr. Feeny. Cory, you had it all! Boy Meets World was unafraid to explore relevant issues that young people go through such as losing your virginity at prom, drinking, relationships, different social classes, domestic violence among many others; each was approached in a tasteful and realistic way. Currently, Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) are filming a spin-off for Disney Channel, Girl Meets World, which will feature Cory and Topanga’s children now learning how to navigate through life.

* couldn’t resist this one*
