Popular CW show The Vampire Diaries might have a spinoff companion show snuggling up to it in the near future. Deadline Hollywood explained that show co-creator and executive producer Julie Plec is working on a project called The Originals. The Originals will (hopefully) star Joseph Morgan, the villainous (matter of opinion) antagonist Klaus and Phoebe Tonkin, a more recent werewolf addition named Hayley. The show is to bring Klaus back to New Orleans, specifically the French Quarter, to reunite with someone from his past.
According to Deadline Hollywood, the pilot will be integrated into this season of The Vampire Diaries as an episode on April 24, 2013. This is not the first time the CW network has attempted something like this—a few years ago, Gossip Girl used one of its episodes to test out a show about Serena’s mother Lily and her life as a young adult living in the 80’s. Unfortunately, the episode did not pass the test and the show was killed before it even really began. Here’s to hoping that The Originals makes the cut!
Personally, I’m very intrigued by this development. I’m all for another show from Plec–she does awesome things with The Vampire Diaries. However, would this mean that Klaus would be gone from The Vampire Diaries for good? I don’t know if I’m ready for him to leave. Regardless, I’ll be tuning in intently on April 24th!
What do you think? Should Klaus continue on in Mystic Falls or would you rather see him take on the Big Easy? Let us know in the comments!
