Three years ago, the world was introduced to Steven Avery, a man once wrongfully convicted for sexual assault who became a key suspect of a murder investigation shortly after his release from prison.
Making a Murderer told Avery’s story as a 10-episode docuseries, ending with the convictions of Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey for the murder of Teresa Halbach. Directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos return to tell the post-conviction story.

In the years following its release to Netflix in 2015, a judge ordered Dassey’s release from prison, but was eventually denied.
In a press release, Ricciardi and Demos said: “Steven and Brendan, their families and their legal and investigative teams have once again graciously granted us access, giving us a window into the complex web of American criminal justice. Building on Part 1, which documented the experience of the accused, in Part 2, we have chronicled the experience of the convicted and imprisoned, two men each serving life sentences for crimes they maintain they did not commit. We are thrilled to be able to share this new phase of the journey with viewers.”
Making a Murderer Part 2 will be released and available to stream on Netflix October 19.
