In the sort-of unexpected news from San Diego Comic-Con, it has been announced that a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is currently in the works.
According to Deadline.com, Midnight, Texas creator Monica Owusu-Breen will be the writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the upcoming original series. Joss Whedon will still have his hand in the iconic show as the executive producer.
This time around, the series will be looking to cast a black woman in the title role. This is a big and exciting change for a series that had always seemed progressive for its time, but still lacked overall inclusion.

In case you need a quick recap, the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer series starred Sarah Michelle Geller as Buffy Summers, a high school teenager destined to seek out and destroy vampires, demons and other forces of darkness with the help of her dedicated Scooby gang.
The series has not been picked up as of yet, but will be shopped around to various networks. There’s no doubt that someone will pick it up.
