Wake up, Canada (and Big Brother fans around the world)! There is good news on the horizon for the Canadian iteration of the international reality TV hit. Global TV has announced they are bringing back Big Brother Canada for its sixth season in 2018. In fact, the overwhelming support by fans to save the show helped to reverse the decision.
Wait, did a fan campaign actually work? It seems so. (And I couldn’t be happier!) The news was delivered after a mysterious Facebook Live stream appeared on the Global TV Facebook page. Big Brother Canada host Arisa Cox and the BBCAN social channels shared the posts, joining in on the speculation of what could be going on. After 24 hours, Arisa Cox delivered the news that, because of the dedication by fans, the show was being renewed.
“Fam! I cannot even believe I’m saying this right now, but due to the overwhelming support by you, the BEST fans in the world, it’s official,” said Arisa Cox, Big Brother Canada host. “Big Brother Canada returns to Global in 2018 for season 6.”
The hashtag used during the mystery, #YouCanAndYouWill, is a nod to the series. In Big Brother Canada 5, Arisa mentions this to houseguest Sindy when she is reluctant to nominate during the double eviction – she ultimately nominated strategic threat Neda. The live stream included soundbites and visuals from past Big Brother moments to tease something was coming.
This decision comes on the heels of the show being placed on hiatus due to a dip in the ratings. Fans have spent weeks rallying to save the show with petitions, support from former houseguests, and help from huge Big Brother news social accounts.
No other additional news is available yet about Big Brother Canada 6. However, casting details are expected to be revealed pretty soon.
Are you happy Big Brother Canada is coming back? Sound off in the comments.
