Younger 4×01 Review: “Post Truth”

Younger returned this week, picking up right where we left off last season… Kelsey finding out the whole truth about Liza. “Post Truth” Kelsey is in complete shock, pain, and anger, which is totally normal after you find out one of your best friends could actually be your mother instead of your sister.

Liza is trying to give Kelsey the space she deserves and hoping Kelsey can forgive her but that doesn’t look very likely. Kelsey is wounded by Liza but is also worried about what Liza’s secret can do to her career and Millenial Imprint. And so when Liza is about to confess to Charles and Diana, Kelsey steps in and stops her. Liza’s truth would discredit Millenial’s credibility and so Kelsey blackmails Entertainment Weekly’s writer right back, proving that Kelsey knows how to play dirty too. Especially when she’s got a fire in her belly.

Kelsey also has no place to stay and as she’s sulking while sipping drinks at the bar, she runs into Josh. Someone who shares in her pain and betrayal, someone who is also keeping Liza’s secret. Two people who haven’t really gotten to know each other because of said secret and who now have a bond bringing them closer. Which brings every viewer to believe that the writers might push these two together. I’m conflicted over this because of its predictability, but at the same time seeing Josh and Kelsey together is an exciting proposition. Also, I’m thinking that Liza deserves a little pain for all the hurt she’s caused willingly or not.

It’s bothersome that Liza, after being through so much with Josh, seems like she’s fine breaking his heart when he was about to propose to her. She acts like a giddy schoolgirl whenever Charles looks at her. Granted, Charles is a gorgeous man. It would be hard to resist his charm. Nonetheless, her lack of remorse for all she’s done makes me feel like she’s careless and selfish. I do, however, appreciate that Younger’s first episode of the season has focused more on friendship than boys.

Anyways, Liza and Kelsey attend Entertainment Weekly’s 29 under 29 party after blackmailing their conniving writer. Even though Kelsey is keeping it professional, she lets Liza know that they’re not on good terms whatsoever.

Kelsey leaves in her Uber, nobody knowing where she’s going. Lauren and Liza are able to track the Uber’s movement and they see where she arrives… Josh’s house! We get to see Josh waiting for her, holding a spare key as they become new roomies. Their instant chemistry and obvious mutual hotness indicates things are going to get complicated between everyone.

We all know Kelsey and Liza will eventually make up. But it’s going to be an interesting journey to get there. I’m ready to sit back and enjoy the wild ride that season 4 is going to be!
