Alec’s cabinet meeting almost went as expected, but then it didn’t. Alec’s newfound status has not changed anything about him. In fact, he’s already shown in this episode alone that he’s a born leader. While his decision to keep Magnus on a professional level might hurt the relationship later, it was a smart decision. Another good choice was to let Luke go. It took me by surprise when he did, but his explanation made sense, and that’s why he’s the leader. Hopefully he keeps up the good work.
Luke, on the other hand, was not on top of his game. His anger towards Valentine was justified based on everything that’s happened to him in this show, but releasing all that anger in this episode made no sense. He’s been a cool-headed leader this season and suddenly he wanted to break the rules. His decision to not join the cabinet didn’t make sense either. His character was forced to do a one-eighty and it didn’t work. There should’ve been a transition into this mindset. Also, Luke is still doing a horrible job at keeping his partner off his track. He’s not even trying and it seems like she’s getting closer to knowing the truth.
The two secrets that were spilled this time around were between Izzy and her mother. The two shared a beautiful moment when they were able to come clean and accept the roads that they’re heading down. It was nice to see Maryse finally have a moment with her daughter. This will most likely strengthen their bond.
Even with her mom’s advice, Izzy didn’t get Raphael. He’s too afraid that she might slip off the wagon if she’s with him, so he chose to let her go. The whole reason he’s only doing so is because of Sebastian who also has a crush on Izzy. It’ll be interesting to see Raphael’s next step knowing that Sebastian wants his girl.
Sebastian is starting to let his true colors fly. He has someone that he’s holding hostage and most likely torturing. He made a statement to Valentine that made him seem like he knew him. He also has crushes on both Izzy and Clary, so he’s got a lot going on as a character. The only question is, what does he want?
One thing that’s clear is that Clary wants Jace and not Simon. The trip to the Seelie world was a surprising delight. The world is very reminiscent to somewhere like Wonderland or Fillery from The Magicians. Everything looks sweet until it tries to kill you. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see all the dangers that Jace kept mentioning, but it was nice to see how knowledgeable and prepared he was compared to Clary and Simon. The vampire almost got killed a minute after arriving. The Seelie Queen was definitely shocked since she looks like a ten year old, but she’s clearly nothing to fool with since she almost killed the two boys. She also made Clary display which one of them she truly loves. What an evil little queen. Of course, now Simon doesn’t want to speak to Clary, and this will most likely push him towards making an alliance with the Seelie Queen. Poor Simon.
