Who knew that Tiger Woods was half Asian? I know I certainly didn’t, but Evan and Eddie did, which is why it was imperative that their mother not find out because if she knew an Asian was in the spotlight, then she’d make them work towards being the next Asian star. It might’ve worked out if Evan didn’t give up in the very first second.
Emery’s message to spread the fact that Tiger is Asian felt slightly underplayed this episode. Being known for one race when you’re biracial is actually an issue that still exists today. That’s why it was important for Emery to let everyone know that Tiger is half Asian, but his defining moment got overshadowed by a fight over matching backpacks. Yes, the fight was funny because it made no sense and showed that kids fight over trivial things, but it kind of felt wrong for the message to be unheard. At least the audience now knows in case they weren’t informed before.
Thanks to Evan’s slip up early on, he ended up setting in motion a playful divide between his parents that would pit the two against one another in a challenge through their kids. Jessica claimed to be like Earl, Tiger Wood’s dad, and her stern parenting leads her boys towards greatness while Louis was more like Kultida, Tiger Wood’s mom, and he’s more laid back. In order to prove himself, Louis challenged his wife to a golfing contest and whoever’s son won would decide who has the better parenting style.
It turned out that Louis’ style seemed more effective. He taught both boys how to play golf pretty well, but it was disappointing that we never really got to see his method of teaching. The show mentioned some of the stuff, but there wasn’t footage of it. We saw Jessica’s style on the other hand. She wasn’t doing a good job, but it was funny to keep seeing her switch instructors anytime one got her upset.
In the end and through the help of fake Kultida, Jessica learned that the kids need both styles of parenting to become great. Even though the laid back one seemed more effective, her pushing them also adds to their skills.
