This week’s Sleepy Hollow “Blood From a Stone” finally gives us the answers we’ve been waiting for about our mysterious villain Dreyfuss, the pieces of the stone artifact he’s been collecting and his dark past.
So what do the pieces of the stone form when put together? The famed Philosopher’s Stone, which Washington has scattered across different supernatural lay lines throughout the United States. One of them being hidden in the Lincoln Memorial, the other which our witnesses will be heading heading to find next? Sleepy Hollow, of course.
But this week’s episode has us still in Washington D.C., where a figure from Dreyfuss’ past has resurfaced from the dead. His old partner Ansel, who was the face of the company, is back from the circles of hell where demons have been carving their names into his flesh. This had granted him his power in the mortal world though and his goal is to get the Stone to undo all that Dreyfuss has done to him.
Years ago when their business was just kick-started, Dreyfuss felt jealous that Ansel was the face of their company even though Dreyfuss believed that he was smarter than him. So Dreyfuss steals the computers with all of the company information only to get into a drinking and driving accident causing his car to burst into flames. Someone heard his prayers though, and he wakes up in his bed, as if the night never happened.
It did though, and that’s when Dreyfuss meets what exactly? The devil? Whomever it was, they made a deal: that if he signs away his soul he would live as if the car accident never happened and Ansel would be dealt with. He takes the deal, and now Ansel is back to regain his life by burning down Dreyfuss’ office using ancient Greek fire with Dreyfuss, Crane and Diana trapped inside.
With the help of Jenny and the archives gang they are able to stop Ansel by breaking into the building’s security system allowing Jenny to show up just in time to read a spell that deactivates Ansel’s sigils. Crane throws a knife into his chest and Diana catches the last vial of Greek fire to save the day, but Dreyfuss escapes with the Stone, bringing out heroes home to Sleepy Hollow next week where the hunt for the final piece begins.
