‘Life In A Day’ movie: moving, inspiring, exciting.

Last night I was able to watch the premiere of the “Life In A Day” movie which was live streamed on YouTube all the way from Park City, UT, more technically Sundance Film Festival where the movie was premiering.

“Life In A Day” is a collection of videos that were recorded by people all around the world during the same day, July 24th 2010. YouTube users had to record a day in their lives, and answer some questions like “what do you love”, “what do you fear” or “what do you have in your pockets”, etc, and then upload the video to the LifeInADay channel on Youtube. There, it would be viewed by a production and direction team which was lead by Ridley Scott (producer) and Kevin Macdonald (director), who would later select 20 videos from the ones they received, edit them and add them to a 90 minute movie that would premiere at Sundance.

I even uploaded some of my videos! But of course, they were not selected LOL. Nevertheless, after watching the final product last night I can tell you that the movie was beautifully made, very moving and life changing. Once you watch it you’ll understand that I am not exaggerating.

The movie started in the very hours of the morning, you see the break of dawn through different lenses and landscapes. You see people what they do when they wake up, their rituals, breakfast, reading newspaper, coffee, etc. The whole movie travels throughout the hours of the day of July 24th 2010, and shows you different situations that people have to go through everyday. This movie will later become like an archive to future generations, for them to see what is our life right now. During the film you don’t know where its being filmed or who the people are unless they mention it.

I have to congratulate Kevin Macdonald, Ridley Scott and the whole production team for an amazing job at selecting and editing from the 4500 videos they received. Its unbelievable how YouTube has become much more than just a platform to watch videos, its a place where we share and learn from others. During “Life In A Day” I learned to appreciate what I have, and how there are people in worse situations than I am and still manage to be happy. Needless to say, tears happened throughout the movie, some stories really captivated me. I think that the main message of the movie is that no matter what the situation is, what language we speak, or where we live, we are all the same family.

I do not know when the movie will air again online besides tonight at 7pm (which already passed, sorry I couldn’t tell you before guys :x ), but Gaby told me it was going to air on NatGeo and yes, I will DEMAND her to watch it LOL and all of you can follow my advice to give the movie a try and tell me if you don’t love your life after that.
