This week’s Shadowhunters finally got two love birds together. Malec is officially a thing! We’ve only been waiting like an entire season for that moment. Nothing was better than watching Alec walk down to Magnus and give him a kiss. Their relationship is going to be an interesting struggle to watch. Not only is the show dealing with sexuality, but race as well since Alec is a Shadowhunter and Magnus is a Downworlder. Hopefully everything works out.
While one relationship is redefined another is still difficult to handle. Clary and Jace are super awkward around each other which is completely understandable. It doesn’t seem like anyone would be okay with finding out that their crush was actually their sibling. The uncomfortable feeling was played really well with these characters. It was nice to see both ends of the struggle. Clary trying to move past it and Jace trying to forget that he even liked her. Another interesting part of their discovery was there feeling towards their parents. Clary feels the same about their mom and dad, but seeing Jace’s emotions on the matter was the highlight. His anger towards their mother felt appropriate. Not easy thinking that his mother left him behind. What didn’t make sense was his feelings towards Valentine. The fact that he feels that he’s suppose to be like him is odd. It’s like he turned on a switch and became another person.
Another character that became someone else or something else rather is Ragnor. Once again there was a powerful warlock in this show, but just like Magnus there wasn’t much display of power. Sure, the magic he did show was interesting, but he immediately got taken out by a Shax Demon, which are really weak demons by the shows standards. Then he reappeared to Magnus a couple times, but it wasn’t clear whether or not he was there somehow or if Magnus was just imagining things.
One thing that can not be imagined is that Lydia is done with the Institute. Her wedding was cancelled by Magnus which must’ve sucked for her, but it was nice that she didn’t put up a fight for Alec. She knew he had feelings for another and when it came down to it she let him go with the person he loved. She desires some brownie points for that choice. If only she could’ve have left before Hodge knocked her out and took the Mortal Cup.
It’s hard to believe that Hodge is working with Valentine. He seemed like he wanted to help people, but I guess you can’t trust everyone. His betrayal would’ve meant more to the show if his character had more screen time. It’s hard to remember that he’s on the show when he only pops up every once in awhile and then leaves. If he was always meant to betray them then the show runners should have made more space for him.
