2016 is shaping up to be a very exciting time for Harry Potter fans. Not only do we have the upcoming movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and the new stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, it’s now been announced that there are new books coming too!
To start, Pottermore announced today that the script for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be published as a book on July 31, 2016. That will be the Special Rehearsal Edition, with a Definitive Collector’s Edition promised to be released later.
October will bring us the next illustrated book in the series: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Based on the first book, this should be a beautiful addition to bookshelves everywhere.
If that’s not enough for you, to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, another edition of the book will be released with four different covers – one for each Hogwarts house: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin.
And in 2017, there will also be another edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with new content from J.K. Rowling herself and new versions of both Quidditch Through the Ages and The Tales of Beedle the Bard.
As someone who’s grown up with the Harry Potter series, I’m thrilled that new material from the wizarding world is still coming from J.K. Rowling. I’ve got my pre-orders all set, the Fantastic Beasts release day on my calendar (November 18, 2016!), and naive hope that I’ll somehow be able to make it to London to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child live:
It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places. (Synopsis from Pottermore)
