Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is a show unlike any other. It is witty, different, and humorous. Tina Fey is tackling controversial topics on the show, yet adding a twist of laughs along the way. After years of being confined underground in an Indiana bunker, Kimmy Schmidt and her friends are finally saved and faced with the real world along with all its changes. Now, Kimmy is learning how to live her new life as she ventures off to New York. She is basically starting all over and doing many things for the first time. Her many adventures are entertaining to watch, while the jokes add spice and bring many issues to light.
But if the unique storyline (and the fact that the handsome Jon Hamm is a part of the cast) does not entice your entertainment appetite enough, then maybe Kimmy Schmidt, played by Ellie Kemper, can. Here are the reasons why you will love Kimmy Schmidt.

Her optimism is contagious.
In a world that is filled with negativity, Kimmy’s bubbly, upbeat self shines through. From being trapped underground for years to being led to believe that humanity was nonexistent, she underwent quite a bit and then some. But she did not let that get her down. Even though she was in a bunker, she was the leader in her pack of friends. When they were down, she rallied them together and brought their spirits back up. She always saw the light at the end of the tunnel, both literally and figuratively. This ball of sunshine definitely stands out in a crowd of New Yorkers, and her positivity catches on to the many people she befriends in the city.

Her style is unique.
Let’s be honest, no one else could pull off a bright yellow cardigan with bright pink pants quite like her. Kimmy’s style is as bold as her personality and we cannot help but love it. Sure, she has some catching up to do when it comes to knowing the latest fashion trends, but she couldn’t care less. Kimmy walks to the beat of her own drum, and let’s be honest, we probably see more surprising things in the city streets than a girl rocking neon attire.
She cares tremendously about others.
Her heart is as big as her smile. Even when the odds were against her, Kimmy still took the time to look out and take care of the ones she truly cared for. Kimmy has not missed a beat when it comes to lending a hand. When Jacqueline was feeling down about her rocky marriage, Kimmy was there to listen to her and comfort her, even though Jacqueline can be a little harsh with the comments.

Her perspective on life.
It is interesting to watch her basically start her life over. During her time in the bunker, a lot of things have changed, so now Kimmy has a lot of catching up to do. But that has not gotten her down. Instead, she takes it day by day. If I was in her situation, I would feel really overwhelmed–living in the city that never sleeps can already prove to be a handful. But not her. She remains positive and continues to absorb all the new information and sights as they come.
And this is why Kimmy Schmidt is unbreakable.
I highly recommend watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Though it is a bit off the wall, that’s just one more reason to watch it. Also, it’s nominated for an Emmy–cannot forget to mention that bit.
