Changing up things a little bit, I decided to do a versus feature of two albums from the same genre. This time around will be hip-hop and I will tell you my thoughts for each album, on the left side we have Tyga and his sophomore album “Careless World: Rise of The Last King”, and on the right side we have the duo Chiddy Bang and their debut studio album “Breakfast”.
Let’s get ready to rumble!
Tyga – Careless World: Rise of The Last King review
One of the few relatively new West Coast rappers, Tyga, comes along with his second album “Careless World: Rise of The Last King“, from which you have probably already heard it’s hit single “Rack City” on your local radio station. From his beginnings in 2008, he has worked his way up in hip-hop with his debut album “No Introduction“, especially after signing with Young Money, whose imprint as a record label is perceived throughout the record, but at the same time it makes Tyga create a name for himself. Starting off as an epic movie with “Careless World“, to party songs like “Faded” and “Celebration“, to 3 interludes (including one from Birdman), to collaborations with Pharrell, Lil Wayne, J. Cole and Nicki Minaj, Tyga is able to put together an album that shows that he is able to stand on his own from YMCMB. While the album starts off good, “Careless World” setting the mood of the record, about the hopes and dreams Tyga has of himself, it progresses to even have a feel of old school hip-hop with “Lil Homie” and even some R&B with Robin Thicke in “This Is Like“, Tyga is able to show that he isn’t just about club jams, he is versatile enough to collaborate with different names in music and offers the listener an epic journey of becoming the king he so badly wants to be. Although, in order for him to become the king, he is already creative enough with the selections of beats in this album, and when it comes to delivering the rhymes he has enough flow but lyrically needs to grow more. However, in my opinion the album should have been kept short, 21 songs is too much, this album was lacking that game changing feel that I was expecting from Tyga, and it shows me that the rise to become hip-hop’s next king (or West Coast king), isn’t an easy task. 6 out of 10
