Whenever it is announced that a popular book is going to be turned into a movie, it is only natural for the fans to worry about whether or not the film version will destroy the original story. Well, fans of Lauren Oliver’s YA novel Panic can breathe a little easier because Universal has hired the 33-year-old author to write a screenplay for the studio’s film adaptation of her book. Universal acquired the rights in 2013, which was ahead of the novel’s release from HarperTeen.

Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a dead-end town of 12,000 people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do.
Heather never thought she would compete in Panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher.
