Unfortunately, yesterday’s Big Bang Theory wasn’t a Halloween themed episode, but Billy Bob Thornton guest starred as a urologist, and he brought a whole lot of creepy with him. Creepy stalking, creepy mumbling, and a creepy basement filled with collectibles he got from… treating stars’ urinary tracts. Additionally, we got some fun bonding scenes from the boys in all their nerdy glory, and some rare feuding between the girls. Let’s start from the beginning.
The girls are having the usual girls’ night when Bernadette brings up some exciting news. She’s been chosen to be part of a magazine’s article as one of the 50 sexiest female scientists in California. Penny’s all support, while Amy vehemently disapproves of the idea because she believes people should be awarded for their achievements, not their appearances. Bernadette, however, believes that people can be both smart and pretty, which is something she doesn’t mind being regarded as. It’s pretty heavy material, but eventually, Penny intercedes with her own experiences, makes a joke about becoming a theoretical physicist, which makes the other two snicker at her naïve adorableness, and just like that, all is fine once again.
The debate doesn’t really get resolved, but later in the episode, Bernadette and Amy are out for drinks, and the topic of sexy scientists comes up again. Turns out that the photo shoot was cancelled, and it’s all thanks to Amy. She sent the editors of the magazine a strongly worded letter about the ethics of having women pose in various stages of undress. She reasons that they would never consider objectifying and ranking men based on their sexuality. Bernadette quips that no one would ever want to see Neil Degrasse Tyson in a wet T-shirt bent over the hood of a Porsche. I disagree. I think everyone would want to see Neil Degrasse Tyson in a wet T-shirt bent over the hood of a Porsche. But I digress. Insults are then thrown, there’s yelling, and the issue is again unresolved. There was plenty of hostility in part of the girls throughout the episode. Good thing the boys had more fun with Penny’s stalker, who turned out to be the perfect addition to their group and Billy Bob Thorton.
As Sheldon is going up to his apartment he runs into Dr. Lorvis (Billy Bob Thornton), who’s there to visit Penny and give her flowers since she winked at him and touched him for two Mississippis while on a sales job. Leonard is quick to stop him, and thus ensues a kooky interaction, which leaves Dr. Lorvis upset, and Sheldon practicing his manners of offering a hot beverage to a person who is upset.

Inviting the doctor in is probably the best thing that’s happened to the boys and this episode, because he’s just like them and we get to see them geek out like old times! Dr. Lorvis has a huge collection from all the stars he treats. Thanks to James Cameron, William Shatner, Gene Roddenberry, and more, he’s got every collectible you can think of, which makes him a huge hit. He eventually invites them over to his basement, locks them in, and tries to score with Penny once more. (And Amy). They both teach him a lesson about coming off too strong, and go back to the doctor’s place to get the boys. You’d think they’d be more upset about being locked in a basement, but they’re not. They’re actually extremely happy because they get to play Donkey Kong!
Bill Bob Thornton’s character was great in this episode. His soft spoken demeanor and love of collectibles made for a perfect fit with the rest of the gang.
