Mount Weather turned out to be much different than most of us ever expected.
Clarke awakens in her solitary room and attacks one of the workers, Mya, to try to escape. It turns out that Mount Weather is completely sterilized from radiation, meaning that none of its inhabitants ever go outside without protective suits.
Their President, Dante Wallace, assures Clarke that she no longer has to fight for her life; she’s not a prisoner. One of my favorite scenes of the episode is when Clarke is given a closet to dress from. Mount Weather actually has some stylish vintage clothes! Clarke picks up a pair of high heels—only to break the heel off to use as a weapon. I chuckled at the scene, but it was also interesting to see the techniques that Clarke naturally picked up from the grounders.
Monty and Jasper are alive and well with the other 48 that were saved and taken to Mount Weather. Clarke isn’t wasting a moment trying to create an escape plan. Jasper, however, is channeling Marie Antoinette as he rather feast on all of Mount Weather’s cake than to even think of leaving and facing the grounders again. He stops Clarke just as she is about to open a door to escape. If Clarke were to have opened that door, everyone on Mount Weather would have died because of radiation exposure. The 100 adapted to Earth’s radiation because of the solar radiation they were accustomed to in space. Those who live in Mount Weather never went through the natural selection process like the grounders did, hence their solid shut bunks.
President Wallace gave Clarke his word that he would save any survivors from The 100 or the ark, but can we really trust him? His creepy smile tells me there’s more to him than meets the eye.

Clarke is overcome with grief, guilt and despair at the thought that the rest of her people are alone or dying outside the Mount Weather walls.
Bellamy and Finn are being tortured by one of the grounder captains. Two of The 100 attempt to save them, but just then Kane steps in. I’ve never been more relived to see Kane than at this moment. He steps in in all of his heroic glory.

But my relief and joy quickly turned into annoyance. Kane has taken the position of Chancellor and hasn’t wasted any time enforcing rules. Him and the rest of the adults from the Ark have been on Earth for all of 0.2 seconds, yet they think they can handle things better than Bellamy and The 100.
Kane has let his heroic run get to his head and now he’s acting like an arrogant jerk once again. He makes it clear that Bellamy isn’t in control anymore. But it will be interesting to see how long Kane lasts on Earth with his little rules and logic.
They find Murphy and Raven in the drop ship. Raven won’t make it unless Abby is able to successfully operate on her. So, there’s that.

Lincoln and Octavia are struggling, too. Octavia’s wound is poisoned and making her weaker. They take the risk and return to Lincoln’s village to find an antidote. Lincoln assumes it’s the fever, but Octavia has seen a disfigured, monster looking man, which is probably what radiation did to those who were weak. What role will the disfigured play in The 100?
Bellamy and Finn are sure that the grounders have taken Clarke and the others captive. They’re hellbent on finding them, but it’s going to be in vain as they’re going to be attacking the wrong set of people, possibly causing more tensions and chaos with the grounders.
Meanwhile, Kane is basically the new Chancellor since the ark still hasn’t heard anything from Jaha. However, Jaha is still alive! How long will he last up there? I’m not sure. I think it’s going to be interesting to see the decision the writers made about either bringing him to Earth or killing him off.
This episode let us know the status of every character we care about and love, as well as establishing the different groups the show is going to be tackling. I’m sure they did this to soothe us before they kick the tension, suspense and drama into overdrive in the episodes to come. The first season proved to us that the grounders were far more complex than they seemed. It could be that this second season takes the same approach showing different layers to those that govern Mount Weather. President Wallace is certainly someone to keep an eye out for.
Clarke may be enjoying the painting set he gifted her, but I highly doubt she’s given up on a plan to return to her people.
