This week it was finally Francis and Mary’s coronation!
But, meanwhile, France was starving.
Starving to the point where men were willing to steal food from French court to provide for their families, knowing the risk could lead to their deaths.
So, let’s just say that Francis and Mary were under extreme pressure as the new King and Queen of France. Lord Narciss knew exactly what to do to back Francis and Mary against a wall as his promise to provide grain was not coming through.
Lord Narciss could be as manipulative as Queen Mother Katherine—that’s saying a lot! Do I smell an alliance between them brewing?
Mary is also having a hard time keeping a low profile, in other words, being a submissive Queen. As much as I love an independent woman, I do have to admit that Mary’s rash decision-making behind her husband’s back has always stirred chaos. She may have the best intentions, but rarely do things go her way without consequences. Some of her biggest faults are that she is so headstrong and impulsive—a bad combination. But, she wholeheartedly does love Francis and the people that are under her rule. She’s a young Queen and she has so much to learn!

She realizes the mess she’s made as she tried to ally with Germany (a Protestant country) for grains, and so she turns to Lord Conde putting his integrity on the line. Thankfully, Conde responds in Mary’s favor and they’re able to secure grain for France’s starving people. Points for Conde!
Yet, I totally noticed a look he gave to Mary, amazed at her strength and diplomatic ways. Could Conde’s admire for Mary turn into feelings?!
Meanwhile, Francis is busy trying to figure out if his dead father has possessed his son’s Nanny. Does that sound crazy or what?!

Francis visits a medium a long with the nanny he fired (without telling Lola). It turns out that Henry possesses the Nanny once again and proves it’s really him when he details his death. Francis is completely freaked out at this point, because as we all can recall, he’s the one to blame—still not ridden of his guilt.
If Francis wasn’t a believer, he is now!
The little things are bringing Lola and Francis together. They’ll have to learn to co-parent, and closeness will only bring discomfort to Mary. Things will only get more awkward from here on out.
In the end, things are resolved, as Francis and Mary have secured grains for France from various sources. They also put Lord Narciss in his place, as it’s been made clear he must respect his new rulers (both of them).

Mary and Francis go through their coronation ceremony and it’s symbolic of a different kind of reign that’s coming to France. Both of them truly have the people’s best interest in heart and want to be as righteous as possible. Those were things that Henry and Katherine never had in mind.
I enjoyed seeing Mary understanding that there will be times where being a powerful woman means standing by and patiently waiting for her husband to make the decisions. Frnacis was also extremely progressive (for those times) as he basically established that he wanted Mary to rule by his side and not behind him. Power to you both! This is one of the reasons why I’ve always liked Francis.
As they embark on their new reign, united and finally on the same page, the episode closes out showing Francis and Mary relishing in their passionate love.
Could it be that this could lead to Mary finally conceiving their first royal baby?!
Let’s cross our fingers!
Mary’s pregnancy is a definite game changer for everyone at French court.
Including ex-Queen Katherine who hasn’t been adjusting to her change in position whatsoever.
We’ll have to wait until next week to see what happens!
