When I think of Fall Out Boy, the first thing that comes to mind is certainly not Disney. But my, the times they are a-changing: the band’s latest single, “Immortals,” is featured on the soundtrack for Disney’s Big Hero 6. The movie, inspired by Marvel’s Big Hero 6 superhero team, follows Hiro Hamada as he and his robot Baymax assemble the team in order to uncover a crime in their native San Fransokyo.
The video opens on Fall Out Boy selecting “Immortals” on a real jukebox—none of that digital nonsense—and giving each other a nod before the song begins. The rest of the video follows the record itself spinning from various camera angles.

In spite of its family-oriented film attachment, “Immortals” doesn’t lose the distinctive Fall Out Boy sound and attitude. For example, the lyric “I’m glad to hate you but I do it in the best way” would be right at home on 2006’s From Under the Cork Tree. It has a strong beat and an anthemic quality that will rock during live performances. My personal favorite part of the song is the contradictory lyrics, specifically “Cause we could be immortals, immortals/But not for long, for long.”
With “Immortals,” Fall Out Boy continues its trend of solid, stadium-stomping tracks. Here’s to hoping a full length album is on its way!
