TV Review: Nashville 3×3 – “I Can’t Get Over You to Save My Life”

It’s wedding season in Nashville and tensions rise as Rayna and Luke try to figure out the perfect date. The media is hounding both of them, as they’re becoming Country’s new power couple.

They may be enjoying the spotlight and knowing how to use it to their career’s advantage, but certainly Deacon isn’t having a great time. Luke insisted on having Deacon continue on tour with him but he keeps cutting his rehearsal and sets down. It doesn’t hurt Deacon’s poor aching heart to see Rayna surprise Luke and amp up the PDA! Pam, Luke’s new back-up singer, saves the day and gives Deacon a little company for the night. We’ll have to see if Pam turns out to be anything serious. Deacon may be off the tour after all, since Rayna and Luke have decided on the Honeymoon Tour!

Maddie is hurting just as bad as Deacon and gets even angrier when she finds out that Rayna and Luke had thought of getting married so quickly. Her rebelliousness continues as she lies to Teddy and instead goes to a party that has alcohol and boys galore! Thankfully, Scarlett runs into her at the party and saves her from any more trouble.

I honestly loved the moments between these two. It was so simple but meaningful as two cousins who often feel like outsiders because of their artistic talent begin to connect. We hadn’t ever seen Scarlett and Maddie really share any interaction, and I’m glad that Nashville was able to bring these two together. I’m hoping we get some amazing song collaborations from them!

Gunnar, Zoey and a very drunk Avery are at the same party Maddie has sneaked off to. We get to meet Gunnar’s very first love, Kiley, played by Alexa Penavega (also known as the girl from Spy Kids). If Zoey wasn’t happy about Scarlett, she’s certainly not thrilled about the googly-eyes Gunnar gets when he talks to Kiley. First loves die hard! It’s evident that Kiley represents a lot to Gunnar, since she grew up with him and his now dead brother. She symbolizes all that he knew from back home. I am sure that Kiley’s arrival to Nashville is going to cause a commotion for Gunnar’s relationship with Zoey.

And while Rayna and Luke may be planning a wedding, Will and Layla have ended the honeymoon stage. Layla is taking the reigns of their marriage and has gone as far as telling Jeff Fordham she will publicly out him if he doesn’t agree to get her music career back on track. I guess desperate times call for desperate measures? Girl isn’t playing any games. She’s angry and manipulative but the girl just found out her whole marriage was a lie, soooo… I kind of get where she’s coming from.

We also meet Nashville’s newest guest star, Derek Hough, from ABC’s Dancing with the Stars! He plays Juliette’s co-star in the Patsy biopic, and after meeting her once he seems intrigued by her. Juliette, on the other hand, is too busy trying to keep her morning sickness and big pregnancy secret under control. Just when she was going to run and tell Avery the truth, she saw him getting frisky with a girl. With her heart completely shattered, Juliette ran to the one person who could possibly relate to a secret pregnancy: Rayna.

I really hope she decides to tell Avery before she makes any decisions about whether to keep the baby or not. She definitely won’t be able to keep it a secret much longer since she can barely make it through a rehearsal without getting sick.

Nashville was strong and steady this week after the many bombs that were dropped in its previous episodes. I think it will slow down its pace to be able to develop all of the new characters and story lines that are brewing.

There is something about Luke that I don’t like, and I haven’t been able to put my finger on it.

I doubt that it will be a smooth trip down the aisle for Rayna, because let’s face it, when is anything easy for her?

The episode closed out with Avery playing one of the songs he had written for Juliette, called “Most Beautiful Girl in the World.” It was heartbreaking as Avery poured out his guts over that piano, tears streaming down his face, unashamed.

Where did they find these crazy talented yet incredibly musical actors?!

If you haven’t heard Nashville’s soundtracks—do so!

You’ll thank me and it will hold you over until next week’s episode!

Now, sound off below on what you think will happen with Juliett’s baby drama and everything else that happened in this episode!
