Nashville is back, y’all!
Last night’s season 3 premiere episode took a different twist, as some of the performances were actually done LIVE for both the East and West Coast.
But let’s get to the juicy stuff this episode packed in one hour! As always, Nashville is never short on drama!
The season kicked off right after Rayna was proposed to by two men she loves, and Juliette’s relationship with Avery completely shattered.
A very distraught Juliette barges into Avery’s apartment the morning after their breakup to try to patch things up. Avery is a drunken emotional wreck and delivers this one line that totally killed us and Juliette alike: “I’m not trying to be mean, but right now I can’t stand the sight of you.”

Now, I totally loved Avery and Juliet together. In the season two finale, Juliette bared her soul to Avery on why she reacts and is the way she is. It comes from so many childhood traumas that this poor girl has gone through. Normally, I know Avery would have been more understanding as he has been in the past, but the guy was hurting really bad! I’m hoping once he recovers from the pain they’re able to mend things together. What Juliette’s been through, of course, doesn’t excuse her from the responsibility of having cheated on Avery with Jeff Fordham, but it’s also worth noting that she’s never been as open as she has with Avery.
Crossing my fingers, because I know things will only get tougher!
Meanwhile, Rayna is completely confused about who she should marry. Deacon had to jump at the chance to ask Rayna right after Luke proposed at his concert in front of thousands of fans. Luke definitely won in regards to the proposal.

But Deacon’s got so much history with Rayna that 7 carats can’t erase!
Deacon and Rayna have always been a toxic combination. They’ve remained madly, deeply in love throughout all these years but when they’re together the intensity of their love somehow backfires. They have to accept that no matter what, they’re always going to be like two magnets drawn to each other – they have far too much unfinished business together. When Rayna goes over to Deacon’s house to tell him she’s chosen Luke for her own wellbeing, Deacon just kissing her hand already has her feelings spiraling out. That was such a powerful scene! Connie Britton conveyed the perfect emotions, and Charles Esten showed the overpowering love he has for her. In that moment, it almost seemed like they were addicted to each other, and it was emotional to watch.

After extensive consideration, Rayna sticks to her guns and chooses Luke as she ditches Deacon’s live show at the Bluebird Café and appears at Luke’s charity event. Will she stick with her choice before they say “I do”?
Who knows!
Avery leaves town on a road trip with Gunnar and Scarlett as he tries to clear his head (by drinking more). Meanwhile, Juliette is literally falling apart. Juliette has had her share of emotional breakdowns, but this nervous crisis was one of the worst. Hayden Panettiere never fails to deliver!
Unfortunately, she didn’t have much time to wallow in her pity as she had an audition for the Patsy Cline biopic that every female singer in town was fighting for. As she sang in her audition, she couldn’t help but become emotional as tears began to sweep down all over her face. Thinking she blew it, she got home and chopped off pieces of her hair with kitchen scissors.
Her mood brightens, however, when her agent lets her know the producers loved the audition and she got the part! She gets herself a nice haircut and calls in her doctor for a home visit to find out what’s also been making her feel sick.
So, as we all know, Hayden Panettiere is actually pregnant, and everyone wondered how that would affect Nashville’s storyline for its third season.
The writers decided to translate that into Juliet’s life giving us a major plot twist.
Juliette’s doctor notifies her that she’s pregnant, and Juliette’s world basically blows up in flames.
Here’s our reaction:
Inevitably, the questions remain about who the father of the child could be. I’m hoping they don’t make it be Jeff, because that would be so stereotypical, and honestly I would be incredibly upset. However, given Juliet’s bad luck it wouldn’t be a shocker. Basically, every fan was left screaming, “PLEASE LET IT BE AVERY’S BABY!!”
Who know where the Nashville writers will take us. At least we know that for the next couple of episodes or maybe the whole season, our feelings will be dangling thanks to this.
This was a great episode for the opening of a new season. I’m glad that they addressed all of the loose ends from the past season’s finale. The way they kicked off season three leaves the audience with so many questions about what could happen next.
This should be a fun season!
