TV Review: Beauty and the Beast 2×21 “Operation Fake Date”

Beauty and the Beast Ep. 221a - 'Operation Fake Date' Season 2

With its season finale coming up next week, Beauty and the Beast had to make sure this week’s episode packed enough punch to leave its fans expectant. And this, it did.

So, it’s official, Gabe has stepped into sociopath territory. This guy is out of his mind as he’s lost the sense between love and obsession with Kat—this makes him quite dangerous.

After the chaos that Kat and Vincent caused in suburbia, the only way Vince could possibly get exoneration is by turning himself in. It’s either that or they continue meeting in a dingy hostel and wearing blonde wigs and mustaches as part of their disguises as tourists. They were pretty funny when they were undercover.

The thing is, Gabe has enlisted Beth’s help by telling her all about Vincent’s corrupted DNA after a government experiment gone wrong. Beth is Kat’s annoying “best friend” who also happens to be a pesky, unrelenting, hungry for a story reporter. He knew that this information would hook Beth’s attention, knowing fully well she’s willing to do anything for a story even if that includes going against Kat’s warnings about Gabe.

Kat’s only option is to take Gabe’s offer and go on a date with him, with an open heart. Kat agreed with the intention of calming Gabe down and using his obsession with her to her advantage. However, things take a wrong turn when Kat mistakenly takes the wrong cake they baked at their date. Gabe goes to Kat’s apartment to return it only to overhear her speaking with JT, Tess, Heather and Vince about the whole fake date plan. Needless to say, after getting his feelings hurt Gabe is once again fully committed to his mission of destroying Vince. Using Beth once again, he gives her more information on Vincent which causes Beth to question him on live TV during the press conference where he was turning himself in. Beth’s public outburst made Vincent a target for anyone who is after him or his DNA.

So, are the people who signed him out of jail friends or foes?  They did  take  a sample of his blood. They also didn’t seem as bad as Murfield and were willing to make a deal with Vince as long as he killed Gabe. Which brings up the question: why do these people want Gabe killed? Is there even more that we don’t know about him? Truly, it  wouldn’t surprise me.

Back at Gabe’s apartment, Kat got so angry at him thinking that he was the one who  knew where Vince was. So angry that sweet Kat almost killed him as she finally let out all the pent up fury she had inside.

Thankfully, Vincent arrives and actually ends up saving Gabe. I hate Gabe, but I really didn’t want to see him go at the hands of Kat and  Vince– it just wouldn’t be right. As Gabe is coming back to life, Vincent gets a call from his FBI agent friend that the same guys who signed him out of jail also got him exonerated.

Which means these guys are pretty top notch in power– who are they and should we be worried?!

Gabe awakens from Kat’s knockout and is informed of  Vincent’s exoneration as well as the fact that Heather has decided to press charges for that time he got her kidnapped and almost got her killed locked inside a dungeon.

Outraged, Gabe injects himself with the beast serum and completely  transforms into his old self; this time it’s literal. He shatters and leaps through the windows of his apartment right before Tess and JT’s eyes, who needless to say, are a little panicky  right about now.

He meets up with Beth as he’s assured her he can give her the serum. Like the fool that Beth is, she meets up with him only to find herself slaughtered by beastly Gabe as he pulls her organs out right from her stomach. I have to be honest, I don’t really feel badly for Beth; her curiosity got her killed.

But what worries me is what was the purpose of ripping Beth’s organs out? Is Gabe planning another way to frame Vincent? The interesting thing remains as to why the men who signed Vincent out of jail would want Gabe killed.

I’m also not sure how I feel about Gabe returning to his beast form. It seems kind of like backtracking, and I’m not sure what more the writers can come up with. Hopefully I can be pleasantly surprised.

Kat and Vincent are enjoying their liberty to be together. As always, these two adorable. Meanwhile, Gabe is running rampant through the city. The romance never seems to be able to last long for Kat and Vincent which must get exhausting. It would be nice if they got at least one whole episode where their relationship wasn’t in danger.

Let’s see what this season’s finale can deliver next week!
