The other night I was invited to see a 23 minute sneak peek of Disney’s “TRON: Legacy” in IMAX 3D. I’ve never seen the first movie, “TRON” (1982). I was not sure what to expect from only seeing the trailer.
The sneak peek showed different scenes from the first half of the movie. We meet Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund). He showed disregard for his inheritance and bitterness over his father’s disappearance. In another scene, we see Sam go in to “The Grid.” The effects are amazing here. The 3D is subtle and not overbearing. Everything is very smooth, clear and sleek.
One scene showed an emotional father/son reunion between Sam and Kevin (Jeff Bridges). Also, Bruce Boxleitner (He was in the first “TRON.”) returns in this sequel.
After viewing this sneak peek, I watched the first “TRON.” What a difference! It was very hard for me to concentrate while watching it because the outdated effects were distracting. New technology has spoiled me unfortunately. But afterward, I understood better what was happening in the sequel.
I look forward to seeing the completed “TRON: Legacy.” Each scene left me wanting more, and the effecting are simply outstanding. Even if you haven’t seen the first film, I think that you’ll be able to grasp the plot. It’s been 28 years since the first movie released, so I think Disney knew they had to appeal to a new generation who has not seen or heard of “TRON.”
“TRON: Legacy” will be in theaters on December 17th in the U.S.
