After her personal struggles that led her to go to rehab for a while, Demi Lovato is back with an album that is nothing but inspirational. ‘Unbroken‘ is Demi’s statement to her fans, she might have been gone for a while but now she’s coming with full force, ready to take over the pop music charts. This album is very elaborate, and offers a balance from upbeat songs to powerful ballads like its first single “Skyscraper”, this album is the real deal. Collaborations with artists like Missy Elliot, Timbaland, Dev, Iyaz and Jason Derulo, ‘Unbroken’ has the potential to be an album that will have most songs featured at our local radio stations.
I have to admit I wasn’t a fan of Demi up until Skyscraper and you can read my review of the song by clicking here, after that I was pretty much looking forward to ‘Unbroken’. Needless to say, the album did live up to my expectations and in a way exceeded them, I was expecting the album to be more ballad driven, I did get those strong ballads as well as pop/dance hits that bring out the pop side of Demi that I had always known.
The first song of the album “All Night Long” feat Timbaland and Missy Elliot, Missy being way from the music scene for a while now and collaborates in this song that mixes both pop with hip-hop, and you can tell already it will be an instant hit. Moving over to a more pop-ish song there’s “Who’s That Boy” feat Dev, who lately has been featured with everyone that wants to make an impact in the House/Dance genre, offering her vocals to a song that will get all Lovatics excited to ask who is that boy over and over. Skipping to one of my favorites, “Together” featuring Jason Derulo, is a self-empowering song that shares experiences from both singers about rising after falling. Talking about empowering songs, we have “Unbroken” which is more electro-esque and talks about loving somene with everything you have, not minding if you’ve been broken before; and “Fix A Heart” that talks about heartbreak, very inspiring and relatable.
In conclusion, this is an album that Lovatics will love, and even people like me who hadn’t heard about Demi’s amazing vocal skills until now will like it too. I recommend this to anyone who’s going through a tough time, this album will provide you with the songs that will make you feel invincible and overall, unbroken.
