You know what this episode did, something that it hasn’t done in quite a while? It made me laugh, a lot. I appreciate how the show has strived to create a legitimate teen geared drama but it never hurts to return to its roots: campy, wolf filled shenanigans and humorous.
This week we had Dylan O’Brien channeling season one Stiles with the physical comedy, Scott struggling after accidentally swallowing wasabi during the most awkward dinner ever and Allison stealing the show as she tries (and succeeds) to out sex appeal Isaac.
Quickly, let’s get something out of the way, I cannot for the life of me bring myself to care about the Derek and Peter storyline, so I’m skimming over it. The fault mainly lies on Peter’s shoulders due to Ian Bohen’s scene chewing affected line reading.
Derek stole his moms claws (gross), had Peter attach them to his fingers (yuck) and then insert them into his neck so he could have a spirit visit with his dead mom.
Phew, now that that’s over, onto the interesting bits.
The big storyline of the week is a murderer who walked on to a bus with a bomb and got shrapnel stuck in his chest, needs surgery. However during the surgery they find what appears to be a tumor but what actually is a pocket of flies that swarm the room once ripped open. The killer sits up, wields and scalpel and manages to escape.
In more fun news, the previous night Scott and Stiles crept into the school to do some damage for Coach for Mischief night. It’s a cute, harmless scene that sets the humorous, lighthearted atmosphere for the rest of the episode. This episode works well on the way they shift and move the pairings and groupings around and starting out with more reliable, Scott and Stiles, is a nice way to go.

The next day, soon after arriving to school, Scott is approached by Aidan and Ethan about being in his pack because without an alpha, the twins are weak. Isaac and Stiles say absolutely not and Scott agrees, telling them he can’t trust them.
Yay! Good on you Scott making smart Alpha decisions.
So Aidan and Ethan decide they’ll just have to keep up the high school student charade for a bit longer.

Inside the school is when it begins to become a little more action packed as the Sheriff hears of a citing of the suspect on school grounds and the police rush over there, instructing that no one enter or leave the school until everything is cleared. Stiles gets his dad to tell him what’s going on and he passes the information along to Allison, Lydia and Isaac.
The police leave shortly despite Lydia having an inkling (a Banshee type feeling) that the murderer is still near. The Sheriff picks fact over magic this time and leaves the teens to deal with it. Which they do kind of. Allison ditches school to go and look up flies in mythology, the wolves search for the killer by scent and Lydia and Stiles look for clues.
Realizing a possible crucial mistake that could turn deadly, Stiles pulls the fire alarm to get everyone out of the school and is caught by the Coach and given a week of detentions.
Later the episode is divided into would be coupling. Allison is researching when Isaac snoops in (because he’s a creep and his character has nothing else of importance to contribute) and he tries to put the moves on her. She puts a stop to it and he doesn’t listen, beginning to strip to try and seduce her. However, Allison is a bad ass and isn’t easily swayed so to try and out do him strips of her shirt as well.

Obviously she wins.
Of course this is just when her dad walks in-well we can’t have enough awkward moments on the show.
Lydia and Stiles are trying to figure things out and share a cute scene where Stiles reassures her that he believes her about the murderer being at the school and he would do anything to prove it. This leads them to the school where they come to the conclusion-through science- that he’s after Kira.
I enjoy Lydia and Stiles as a pairing but for now the chemistry between O’Brien and Holland Roden is very platonic at the moment and it isn’t easy to tell if it’s purposeful or not.
The cutest scenes are with Kira and Scott, the latter having been invited over to dinner by Kira’s dad. They have sushi and Scott has difficulties and they flirt in a manner that doesn’t seem appropriate for small talk with the parents. It’s cute and harmless and builds up a nice chemistry between Tyler Posey and Arden Cho.
The date is going fine, of course until the murdering mad man hits Scott over the head and steals Kira. This doesn’t last long since Stiles and Lydia find him, wake him up and use Lydia’s screaming skill (and will someone please teach Roden how to scream without looking ridiculous) to find out where Kira has been taken.
They race to the warehouse and Scott finds Kira tied up by the madman who believes that there are children with glowing eyes that he needs to dispose of. Scott thinks he means werewolves but it turns out Kira isn’t as normal as she seems. When the mad man tries to electrocute her she causes a power outage and draws all of the electrical force into herself.
Color me confused.
This was an absurd episode of Teen Wolf is the best ways it can be. It made me laugh on numerous occasions, it surprised me and it added a new mythological element. How on earth are they going to wrap all of this up?
