With Thor himself (Chris Hemsworth) announcing this years nominees for 86th annual Academy Awards, it’s time The Young Folks put out some of their own predictions before the nominees are set in stone.
In a fashion, this year’s Awards Race seems unpredictable. Aside from the Lead Actress race (which seems like it’s heading towards Cate Blanchett and has since Blue Jasmine’s release) all of the acting categories seem up in the air. The Golden Globes had some shocks (Spike Jonze getting a deserved award for Best Screenplay for Her), some disappointments (Jennifer Lawrence’s over the top performance in American Hustle winning over Lupita Nyong’o’s brave and breakthrough performance in 12 Years a Slave as well as American Hustle winning anything at all), and some wins that we all new were going to happen such as he aforementioned Blanchett.
These aren’t my personal picks for who I wish would be nominated and/or win but who I think have the strongest cast for them. I would love to see Joaquin Phoenix, Greta Gerwig or Jake Gyllenhaal all sneak in there for whatever fashion but it seems as if some performances didn’t stick like they should have.
Who are your guesses for this year? Whose name and what movies will be called Thursday, January 16th for the Academy Awards?
