Earlier this afternoon, ABC Family announced that popular show Pretty Little Liars, based on Sara Shepard’s bestselling books, has been renewed for its fifth season–a week after finishing its third.
However, that’s not why we’re here.
Considering it’s probably ABC Family’s most popular show (or at least the most popular on social media, as explored in a recent Entertainment Weekly article) and the cliffhanger-y season finale, I think we all could have guessed that the Liars would get a whole new season to avoid talking to the authorities when they really should (like that time the kid Aria was babysitting got kidnapped) and breaking the law in order to “avoid trouble” (like that time Hanna dumped a cop car into the lake after her mother did a hit and run on the officer to “get rid of the evidence”) (honestly, this show).
But I digress.
According to ET Online, the big announcement was that Pretty Little Liars is getting its own shiny new spinoff! Ravenswood will be about the titular town close to Pretty Little Liar’s Rosewood. Ravenswood is a town that has been stricken by a deadly curse for ages and a whole lot of secrets buried in its history. Five strangers will come together as a result of this curse to delve into the dark history of the town and try to stop the curse before it defeats them all. I find it interesting that Pretty Little Liars and Ravenswood are supposed to be set in the same world–yet one is a contemporary teen drama, whereas the other seems to be aiming for paranormal teen drama.
The first episode of Ravenswood will premiere following the Pretty Little Liars Halloween episode in October, says the ABC Family twitter.
What do you think of the news, PLL fans? Will you be tuning in for Ravenswood?
