In the last Fast & Furious (2009), Dominc Torreto (Vin Diesel) had been sentenced to go to jail, and right there is where we start Fast Five. As Dominic is on the bus with the rest of the inmates on their way to the Los Angeles County jail, we see Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) and Dominic’s sister and Brian’s girlfriend Mia (Jordana Brewster) maneuver fast cars in order to create a car crash and prevent Dominic from going to jail. The car crash is a total success and the only inmate that was missing was Torreto. The FBI is now looking for Dominic, a 2nd time escaped convict as well as Brian and Mia for being the accomplices of his escape. The trio leave the US and end up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where Vince (Matt Schulze) who appeared in the first Fast and the Furious, offers them a job since he knows that due to their situation they “can’t say no to a payday”. In order for Dominic, Brian and Mia to complete this last “job”, they’re going to need the help of a team, so they call up their friends Roman (Tyrese), Tej (Ludacris), Han (Sun Kang), Gisele (Gal Gadot), Santos (Don Omar) and Leo (Tego Calderon).
The “job” is basically taking over Rio which is Reyes’ (Joaquim de Almeida) turf, due to their presence in Rio, words spreads out about Dominic, Mia and Brian to federal agent Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), who is the FBI’s #1 guy when they want to hunt someone down and bring them back to the States. Hobbs brings to Rio his team and are ready to find the Fast Five gang.
I found Fast Five to be thoroughly entertaining, the action was INSANE and it was as well very funny! In a few words I could say that Fast Five is like Ocean’s Eleven meets Fast and the Furious: you have a team, you have a mission and the reward is $100 million dollars. The team brings out their cleverness, fast cars and tactics to bring down Reyes as well as Hobbs. The Rio landscape was awesome and a perfect fit for this 5th installment, and reminds us that these guys are not in America anymore, they’re in Brazil where everything goes and you can’t tell who’s the bad guy or the good guy.
MAKE SURE YOU STAY AFTER THE CREDITS!!
Is this the start of the summer blockbuster season? Yes it is. Fast Five is what you need to watch this weekend and if you like Don Omar’s “Danza Kuduro” get ready to dance in the theater because they play it during the movie! lol
Fast Five comes out in theaters April 29th 2011.
