The Strokes style is very unique, whether it is by Julian Casablancas’ voice or the guitar riffs, I for one, can recognize a Strokes’ song miles away. While listening to “Angles” the first time I didn’t like it as much as I expected, I had to play it a second time and then was when I started to appreciate it. SO DON’T BE FOOLED YOUNG FOLKS!, listen to it a second time around and you’ll see you’ll start to love it. As much as all the music out there, this album is also gearing towards electronic music, but still The Strokes keep it real and the songs become catchy without being annoying, and maintain that unique Strokes’ sound within. Some songs like “Games” and “You’re So Right” are evidence of this electro edge that is more enhanced this time around in “Angles”.
After many years, one thing is clear: The Strokes are evolving, by evolving meaning that they’re trying new sounds, whether it is using more synthesizer, removing the drums out of a song, adding more electronic music, or Casablancas’ voice being barely there, they’re still one of the best alternative rock bands at the moment, and the wait for this album was definitely worth it.
Some of my favorite songs are “Under Cover of Darkness”, “Life Is Simple In The Moonlight”, “Taken For A Fool” and “Two Kinds Of Happiness”.
