Every TV lover has been craving TLC’s new series, “Breaking Amish”. The show involves 4 Amish and 1 Mennonite breaking their culture to live in thriving city of New York City.
There were tears, laughs, fights and love.
When the 5 young adults first met each other and the big city, they immediately wanted to go back home to their families. They were scared and intimidated by their new environment, and the new people surrounding them didn’t help the cause. The girls didn’t like each other very much, and the guys were polar opposites.
The teens began to breathe in the new English culture, and bought new clothes that revealed more skin than before, they ate different kinds of food, and they went out and had fun. The restrictions that the Amish culture would put on them were no longer restricting them; they were breaking free into the true, American lifestyle.
However, when they really got to know each other, some built relationships with others, and some expanded upon their horizons to fulfill their dreams. The relationship between Abe and Rebecca started to fire up, and then relationship between Sabrina and Jeremiah started to get hot.
Although Kate didn’t have a partner throughout the journey in New York, she pursued her dream to recieve a modeling contract. When she first went to the modeling agency and took her test shots, the photographer saw great potential. Although he gave her the critics to slim down five pounds and clear up her skin, Kate was ready to take on anything. She worked hard and received a contract at New York Model Management.
By the end of their journey in New York, Abe decided to ask Rebecca to marry him. What he didn’t know, however, is that Rebecca was previously married and had a baby daughter, and divorced her husband shortly after. Abe had to make the decision to marry Rebecca, which meant he couldn’t be allowed back into the Amish community, or to stay single and live with his family’s traditional ways.

Abe took the risk, and decided to propose to Rebecca. She, of course, said yes.
When the journey was all over, the teens went back home and witnessed how their families will treat them after breaking out of their culture. It was hard to tell from the footage shown, but the majority of them were abandoned from their families. As for anyone, it is hard to see your family let you go because you broke family traditions.
Sabrina went back to her home in Pennsylvania, and Jeremiah kept on traveling to and from Ohio to visit her. Jeremiah was heartbroken when he travelled to Sabrina, and she broke the news to him that she had a boyfriend who she loved. It was hard for the two to work together in order to make Abe and Rebecca’s wedding, bachelor and bachelorette parties happen, as she was the Maid of Honor and he was the Best Man. But they pulled through, and the wedding was gorgeous. A wedding is all about love for each other, and that is exactly what the wedding represented.
I personally loved the show. I never really knew about the Amish culture, except the fact that they were similar to the Pilgrims that I learned about in 7th grade history and to the Puritan community that I learn about in literature. Although these teens are from a similar background, they had such diverse personalities. Some were shy and some were outgoing, some loved to party and some despised people drinking for pleasure. I was so surprised about these people’s backgrounds, as the most innocent girl was married, divorced and had a child! Another girl suffered from obesity and then anorexia! You would not expect or believe how interesting these people are!

I’m interested to know if TLC plans to reunite these teens for another season in New York, or get a whole new group of young adults to break their traditional culture. This new series was insanely popular, and I am looking forward to another great season!
After the show, all the teens are being reunited where they spill the details of what actually happened. Stay tuned for a review on 411 of Breaking Amish.
