After an intriguing premiere that showed various aspects of The Purge, “Take What’s Yours” fell flat and left us with more questions than answers. However, since this is a 10-episode series, that could be the point.
The Purge is slowly giving us pieces of each character’s story, whether it be past of present. “Take What’s Yours” focuses more on Jane and Miguel but not in the same timeline. We don’t know much about Miguel’s background besides the fact his parents were killed during the Purge. However, we know more about Jane’s backstory as she mainly lives in flashbacks this episode.
In “Take What’s Yours,” Miguel continues to search for his sister Penelope. The girl continues to drink the crazy cult kool aid as she encourages her friend that being purged is okay. Whenever we see “The Invisible,” it gives you American Horror Story vibes. You sit and wonder how a writer could come up with this and make it so terrifying to watch.
What makes Penelope’s situation gut-wrenching is that she is on a bus full of teenagers who have so much to live for. Watching the children brainwashed into thinking that being murdered is okay is terrifying.
That’s what makes Miguel’s search for his sister so much more important. Penelope’s storyline makes you root for Miguel’s success in finding and saving her. It doesn’t help that he gets caught in a death-defying (literally) obstacle course that is streamed on live television. Throughout the course there are Purged-crazed lunatics throwing arrows, shooting, and all out trying to kill him.
Unlucky for the one running the show that they underestimated the power and will of a U.S. Marine as he is able to survive and be set free. He lives to see another episode and gets another chance to save his sister.
For Jane, we live in flashbacks. After seeing her pay a professional murderer in the premiere, we learn that she has dreamed of being the top of her firm. During her job offer, her boss David Ryker (William Baldwin) fills her with hope that one day she will become partner.
In more flashbacks, we learn that is not true as Jane continues to turn down subtle advances from David, leading us to believe he might be promoting in exchange for sexual favors.

In present day, one of Jane’s employees, Allison, is snooping arkund her office and finds Jane’s Purge wish list. In doing so she mentions David. Allison won’t let the subject go, which leads us to believe Jane hired the woman to kill David for her. It makes sense since he seems like the worst boss ever.
In another flashback, Jane meets her murder-for-hire for the first time and, even then, we don’t know who Jane wants to kill. David seems like an obvious choice but we do have eight more episodes to go and I have a feeling there will be a twist.
