Now THAT was a game-changing week of Big Brother Canada 6! Sure, we’ve watched weeks in past seasons where the house flipped and pawns (or other targets) were sent out the door. The turning of the tide is a classic Big Brother strategic trope. However, the fast and furious implosion of Jesse’s game took that storyline to a completely new level. He went from non-entity to pawn, to idle threat and house target in less than a week; well, it was more like a weekend. Jessie’s destruction was so shocking that you had to see it to believe it.
First off, Hamza’s inconsistency as a gameplayer left everything up in the air. Once he won HOH, he had it set in his mind that he wanted to make a big move that changed the dynamic of the house. It didn’t matter if it was the right move to make for his game; he had his sights set on a move that would be good TV. When you’re playing Big Brother, that is definitely not the approach to take – you have to do what’s right for your game that can help you win. Hamza isn’t a good Big Brother player; he’s inconsistent, hypocritical, and he changes his direction daily based on his mood or the house mentality.
The house originally wanted Olivia gone. They all thought she was a low-key player who could slide to the end and score some votes to win. However, Hamza wanted to keep his options open as HOH and mess with people’s minds. Enter Jesse. Nominating Jesse initially as a pawn was a smart move since it kept the possibility alive that Hamza could backdoor Derek or Kaela (i.e. Jesse’s allies) if given the opportunity to break up the showmance. He wanted to target them and they were his initial goal. The problem that affected both Jesse, and especially Hamza, was that Hamza won the Power of Veto and didn’t use it. Hamza not only went back on his initial plan to target the showmance, but he went against any of the new alliance deals he made with Jesse. That’s bad enough as is; however, Hamza swore on his fiancé’s life and still went back on it.
Jesse broke one of the biggest cardinal rules of Big Brother: Never let your emotions cloud your gameplay. He lashed out at Hamza during the POV ceremony and it shook the house. Everyone took notice to a heated Jesse; their opinion of him changed and he became the big enemy, especially with Hamza pushing the hypocritical narrative of Jesse mentioning that Hamza swore on his fiancé, Caroline’s, life. Jesse’s best option would’ve been to stay calm and collected during the POV ceremony, then ramp up the campaigning in the days leading to eviction. He failed to do that and became the bigger target. We have to give him credit for trying to rally his former allies in the last few minutes before the eviction. Everything he said made a lot of sense, but it couldn’t undo the damage he did beforehand.
You’ve got to love a good sponsored challenge. In fact, most of the Big Brother Canada challenges during Week #3 had a connection to their food sponsorship with Wendy’s. With exception to the “Will You Showmance?” dating game, food was the main theme. There were a few standouts by the houseguests with their challenge performances. In particular, Veronica proved that she’s a competition beast who could dominate in another endurance challenge, and Hamza had a good throwing arm. Both came off looking like bigger targets.
Speaking of showmances, the romances and love triangles got a huge amount of focus this week. Veronica and William have a nice flirtmance going on, but she’s clearly more into him than he is into her. Derek and Kaela (or “Daela”) are the only official showmance in the Big Brother house as of now. Everyone wants to target them since they’re both strategic and likeable. When it comes to the pair, Kaela is the bigger target and she’ll be the one evicted first; just look at the way she tried to instruct Derek on what to do with Jesse’s impending eviction, she was completely right.
In the matter of the Paras/Jesse/Olivia debacle, that love triangle could’ve been avoided if only Paras admitted her feelings for Jesse early on. She pushed it off and hid them too long and it kept everything up in the air and gave Olivia hope she could be with Jesse. That relationship obviously didn’t happen because Paras liked Jesse and tried to campaign for him to stay. Paras’ game has been hurt hard over her campaigning for Jesse; Will hates her, Olivia is done with her, and the girls don’t fully trust her. Paras has a long way to go to get the target off her back.
A negative that popped up during the third week was the lack of transparency going on in the Big Brother Canada 6 house. For those who are super-fans of the series, you may have heard of the live feeds. The feeds are a great way to see into the house, check out the true strategies and all the drama going on with the players. Unfortunately, the feeds continue to get blocked for hours on end this season, and even if the feeds appear, none of the correct footage is used. The editing for Week #3 completely disregarded the true story of what happened inside the house; we didn’t see any of the right love triangle moments, shifting alliances or deals that were shocking and entertaining. The round would’ve been even more sensational if only the proper footage was used.

Don’t get me wrong, Week #3 of Big Brother Canada 6 was a fun and strategic week. However, this could’ve been pushed so much further if only we saw the true story. Hopefully the filler and altered narratives are removed going forward. There is already so much drama going on inside the house that we could have an enjoyable episode without any of the forced edits.
