In the season one finale of The Guest Book, creator Greg Garcia brings the wacky story of the residents of Mount Trace full circle. After nine episodes of craziness, the residents are now having to deal with the consequences of their actions over the last few months.
“Story Ten” begins like the others as Arlo approaches Woody at the vending machine hyping up the finale. In a new turn of events, Woody reveals that he gave in and watched “Story Nine,” but that he wouldn’t watch the finale because the show “wasn’t for him.” The bit between Arlo and Woody has remained a fun way to recap the previous episodes and it was nice to see them finally changing it up for the last episode.
To say that Garret Dillahunt, Charles Robinson, and Carly Jibson stole the show is an understatement. Throughout the finale, their characters, Dr. Andrew and Wilfred, had to figure out what to do with Tickles after they shot her boob with an arrow. The best one-liner from the episode was when Andrew said, “I have a cop in my bed and a stripper with my arrow in her tit.” If you don’t read further, that line basically summed up the entire episode.
After episodes of oddball guests staying at Froggy Cottage, Garcia was able to merge it all together in this one episode. And it worked. Honestly, he could have focused the entire series around the residents of Mount Trace and still have a smash hit, but that wasn’t the premise of the show.
Between Andrew stealing medical supplies, Wilfred trying to kill Tickles, Frank admitting he wants his stepmother dead and Cop Kimberly finding Tickles held as a hostage, things definitely came to head. Of course, Kimberly was conflicted. She didn’t want her new boy toy to go to jail for shooting Tickles and, because Wilfred destroyed the blackmail tape, there was no evidence to justify kidnapping Tickles. That’s when Andrew’s son ties the entire story together.
Andrew’s son began reading the entries from the Froggy Cottage guest book and finds the first entry when “John” wrote about Tickles blackmailing him in the VIP room. That’s when Kimberly starts calling everyone from the previous episodes to figure out who the anonymous author was. She finally reached Tim from “Story One” who revealed the entry was all true. In the end, everyone got their “happily ever after” of sorts as Tickles agreed to not press charges and everyone went on living their interesting lives in Mount Trace.
After a rollercoaster of a freshman season, it’ll be interesting to see what unique storylines Garcia will cook up for season two of The Guest Book. The writers held nothing back and as long as the original residents of Mount Trace return, The Guest Book and Froggy Cottage are sure to remain at capacity for seasons to come.
