The Huangs are now homeless. Wait, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start at the beginning of the season three finale of Fresh Off the Boat.
This began with Evan’s fascination with private school, specifically St. Orlando’s. However, Jessica didn’t want him to go because of how expensive it was, and she had planned out his life for him and wanted him to stay on track. This was one of those moments where Jessica’s character was weird because even though the school is more money, it could be assumed that she would completely be on board with Evan wanting to go to private school. Despite this unexpected reason, after a meeting with the Headmaster, she was convinced. The only problem was that Evan didn’t get in. Since the family rented their home and worked in the food industry, he wasn’t deemed fit.
Luckily for Evan, Louis was tired of renting his home and wanted to own it, and it just so happened that Michael Bolton offered him a partnership deal. After a quick altercation with the landlord, Louis chose to take the deal, and with Jessica’s help, they found a new home and a way for Evan to get into St. Orlando’s
Meanwhile, Eddie and his friends had to steal back a video that they edited about each other from Brian’s step brother. Eddie wanted to do it a peaceful way, but they ended up stealing it and running. Now that the family is moving, will they all still be friends?
Emery was not really in this episode and was surprisingly okay with them messing up his video. The episode dropped the ball on this idea.
The new house is great, but they can’t use any of the nice features because Jess says they’re house poor, which means they have a house, but can’t afford to spend anything. Louis doesn’t go along with this and uses the hot tub and the heated floors. He even buys a riding lawnmower. His actions eventually lead Jessica to divulge that they’re not house poor. She’s not used to being so comfortable and is afraid the family will lose their drive if they do. It was a nice sentiment and a call back to the previous episodes and the life boards and how she wants them to stay on track.
As for the Michael Bolton deal, he’s changing things at Cattleman’s which could cause trouble down the line, but Louis is cool with it because of the money. He better pay attention before something goes wrong with his restaurant.
Evan might’ve had a good time at St. Orlando’s if it wasn’t for Emery. Granted, Emery’s cause about child labor was an important one. It was a shame that the cause got snuffed out because they read the tag on the blazer wrong. Now Evan is mad at Emery and claims that he has to get him back into the school.

Eddie no longer has friends. The tried to hang out from across town, but it wasn’t working out. The trips were too long, and Eddie was missing out on the group’s fun. They thought about getting matching tattoos, yet everyone but Eddie bailed. That made him upset, and he said some things in the heat of the moment and ended his friendship with them. Too bad the family decided to move back, now he has to go back to school with no friends.
Not to mention, the family has no home! They returned the old one on account of ghosts. Don’t know how that worked, but it did. They tried to move back to their old home, but they must’ve assumed that they could just move back without clearing it up with the landlord, and now a new family lives there. They say they’re homeless, but their best bet would be to move back to their haunted house, and yet that won’t happen because this is a show. We’ll have to wait until next season to see what happens.
