Evolve: Stage Two : Monster-Hunting Game Relaunches as Free-to-Play

AEVOLVE

Despite “Evolve” garnering massive attention and praise when it was announced, the product was more or less a mixed bag for gamers. It received heavy criticism for the blatantly greedy amounts of DLC that had to be purchased, which should have already been included in the $60 retail copy. As a result, few players chose to stick around and play the disappointingly limited adventure for very long. That doesn’t seem to be stopping the developers, however, as Turtle Rock Studios has announced a revamp of the franchise. While it should have been the main focus of the game to begin with, considering 2K Games’ desire to squeeze money out of its players, “Evolve: Stage Two” has been announced as a free to play game.

In response to the fans’ complaints, Chris Ashton and Phil Robb (co-founders of Turtle Rock Studios, Inc.) posted on their website’s forum:

“…when Evolve launched, the reception wasn’t what we expected. Sure, there were some good reviews. There were also bad reviews. Yes, there was excitement. There was also disappointment – for players and for us. The DLC shitstorm hit full force and washed away people’s enthusiasm, dragging us further and further from that first magical pick-up-and-play experience.

We want that magic back and we aim to make it happen. We’ve made a lot of changes, improvements and additions to Evolve over the past year and we’ve got a lot more coming. In short, we’re giving this game a vigorous overhaul!”

Some newly added features that will be coming to the free-to-play experience include additional customization options, improvements to the map and load times/performance, and the ability for gamers to earn certain content for free, instead of forking over needless amounts of cash. “Evolve: Stage Two” is now in open beta on the PC. However, there is no word on how the consoles versions will be changed to match “Stage Two’s” promises. Be sure to watch the trailer below and let us know if you’ve been a fan of the franchise since the first game, or if this entry might bring you back in.
