With so many futuristic FPS games being released these days, whether by Electronic Arts, Activision or any other company in between, some fans have started growing bored with the genre. For years, avid players of the franchises “Call of Duty“ and “Battlefield“ have been begging the developers to head back to the “glory days” of the World War shooter. While Activision appeared to ignore those specific requests, and instead decided to release a remastered version of “Call of Duty 4” with their latest near-future shooter “Infinite Warfare”, it seems that EA and DICE will be the first to answer the call of duty (hehe puns) with the announcement of the new WWI FPS “Battlefield 1”.
Since the announcement is fairly recent, not much is known about the narrative thus far, but the teaser appears to promise various game-play segments including trench warfare, desert combat and biplane air raids. While this latest announcement may feel like a breath of fresh air for fans of the genre, it should be noted that a little over a decade ago the roles were reversed. WWII games were a dime a dozen, and it was only with the announcement of “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” that players became reinvigorated with the FPS genre. However, that hopefully shouldn’t take away your anticipation of this titles, as the teaser has been receiving acclaim across the internet (unlike rival Infinite Warfare, whose reaction has been largely negative.) Be sure to check out the trailer below and let us know if you think “Battlefield 1” will be a welcome return to the world war atmosphere!
