Mad Genius Controllers has been working on a revolutionary product and it is finally time to show it off. They recently unveiled their new controller prototype, which gives motion capabilities to nearly any game without modifying the game or the console in any way. The system uses its own processor, a series of 3 motion sensors on the bottom of the television, and 1 additional sensor on the top. The company states that the system is compatible with any game, making older and previously non-motion games feel like an entirely new experience.
The company uses Skyrim to show off its impressive tech. The user is able to move around with the joysticks as well as with motion, helpful in flanking an enemy during combat. Probably the most impressive feat is the splitting of the two controller halves, allowing for different gestures that the system can translate into various game mechanics. The sensors register the two split haves and immediately put away the player’s sword and shield in favor of the bow and arrow. Mad Genius says that the sensors are accurate to up to 1/100th of an inch so you actually have to hold your breath while firing, a direct simulation of what you have to do while firing an actual bow and arrow.
The prototype controller is heavily wired, making it far from commercial use. Mad Genius is attempting to launch a crowd funding campaign in order to gain enough funds to support the development of a wireless controller. Until then, they plan to continue releasing demo videos to the public that shows off just what this impressive technology can do. They’re currently prepping for their next video demo which pits the controller against one of gaming’s most lovable franchises: Halo.
