Gamers, have your coffee ready for this latest news: Deadly Premonition, the cult hit survival horror video game, is coming back for another investigation! Though, it’s not as you think. Instead of returning as a sequel to the 2010 murder mystery, the original story is being adapted as a board game.
Deadly Premonition: The Board Game is a (mostly) card game between 2-4 players in their search to identify the Raincoat Killer. Players take on the roles of investigators conducting cases to clears suspects, who consist of the off-beat and mysterious characters from the town of Greenvale. Hidden among the group of players is the town’s infamous Raincoat Killer. The first person to identify and find the killer wins the game.
The board game was launched as a Kickstarter campaign on May 9, 2017 with a goal of $50,000. However, in just eight hours and 14 minutes, the campaign has already reached its goal and is currently exceeding its backing count by eager fans of the game (this writer included!). Deadly Premonition: The Board Game is being created by Rising Star Games’ Samuel Elphick and Daniel Osuna Perez, and it has received the blessing of the video game’s developer Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro.
For those unfamiliar with the video game, Deadly Premonition is a 2010 cult survival horror game set in the quiet, sleepy town of Greenvale. Players take on the role of agent Francis York Morgan as he investigates the strange ritualistic murder of Anna Graham. Aided by the local police department and his mysterious friend “Zach”, York must solve the crime as the infamous Raincoat Killer starts his killing spree in town. Deadly Premonition is influenced by the classic TV series Twin Peaks and was released to polarizing reactions from critics and fans alike. (You either LOVED it or HATED it.)
The Kickstarter campaign is still in full swing. You can head to the campaign page to pledge for the board game and get additional rewards, FAQs, and updates.
