Meghan Trainor has brought a different sound to the mainstream music arena. She released her EP “Title” on September 9, 2014, featuring four singles: “All About That Bass,” “Title,” “Dear Future Husband,” and “Close Your Eyes.” Meghan’s infectious debut single “All About that Bass” is the summer self-empowerment anthem that everyone can get behind.

Meghan’s hit single is already becoming a fan favorite worldwide and continues to climb the charts both in the U.S and internationally. Her sound on the EP has several influences, such as hip-hop and 1950s pop just to name a few. Thus, her overall sound and persona are what differentiates her from other artists.
This pop artist blends pop and 50s like it’s nothing, and this is only the beginning of her success. During her early career, the Massachusetts native was based in Nashville and wrote songs for a number of artists already. Now, Meghan Trainor is signed with Epic Records. Even though her EP just came out, there is already much anticipation for her to release a full album.
Track 1: “All About that Bass”
This track does not need a long introduction since I am pretty sure almost everyone has heard it on the radio. It has a catchy melody and makes us girls and guys appreciate our bodies for what they are.

Track 2: “Title”
Compared to “All About the Bass,” which has a more pop vibe, “Title” has the 1950s flare that shows off her unique sound. It also opens up with a nice ukulele melody. However, as the song progresses you will find a hip- hop beat, which smoothly transitions into the rest of the song. It is as if I time-traveled to the era of polka dotted dresses and pinned up hairdos.
Track 3: “Dear Future Husband”
This one is my personal favorite off of her EP. The very beginning sounds like we are listening to a vintage 1950s radio, but the song quickly picks up from there. Like the previous two tracks, it has an upbeat vibe that we can dance to. Don’t we all want our future husbands to treat us like a lady? Well, Meghan Trainor thinks so, and I have to agree with her! I love the message and the fun beat.

Track 4: “Close Your Eyes”
It has a slow, bluesy vibe. Unlike the other tracks, this song is not upbeat. The hip-hop beat accompanied with the 1950s sound is great and surprisingly works really well. I can tell that Meghan is not afraid of putting together completely different sounds. I also think the snapping in the song was a nice added touch.
The hip-hop and 1950s influences are apparent throughout the whole EP. Lyrically, Meghan Trainor is not afraid to speak her mind. It is clear that she already made a statement with her strong anthem about embracing who you are. Now, if you’re a megatron, then we know you are “all about that bass, no treble.” It is clear that this talented young lady is not going anywhere. I’m looking forward to hearing a full album from her in the near future.
