Wait, Jesse McCartney is touring?! Yes he is, ladies and gentlemen, and he is in Technicolor.
After I went to see Rixton in San Francisco about a week ago, I went on a search to see if anyone else was coming to town. After going to a bunch of concerts one after the other, I knew I had to get my concert fix. Lo and behold, Mr. Jesse McCartney was coming into town! The fangirl in me came out (yet again) and brought me back to when I first heard “Beautiful Soul” on the radio.
The concert was on August 30th in San Francisco. It was happening at the Fillmore, which is a bigger venue than Slim’s, where Rixton performed. I preferred this venue because there was more room to dance and breathe, and you can still get a good spot without worrying about people bumping into you. Also, it’s easier to find parking, and if you are from the area, then you know the struggle is real when it comes to finding parking in the city.
The concert started at 9 pm when Guinevere opened with a number of her own songs as well as adding in some covers.
Guinevere describes herself as a “dark pop diva,” and this diva is definitely an entertainer. She had a few music videos that were displaying on the screen behind her during her set. The videos were quite unique and filled with dramatic effects, makeup, and a touch of glitter. Also, it is not every day you see a person in a gorilla suit throwing out flyers. The flyers were the size of polaroids and had her social media handles on them as well as a photo of herself. It was “gorilla” marketing at its finest. Also, throughout the set, she kept commenting on her love of Star Wars and how her microphone stand, since it could light up, reminded her of a lightsaber. So, from a man in a gorilla suit to glittery graphics and the lightsaber mic stand, she was quite an interesting artist to watch. This 21-year-old brought the house down with her bigger than life show, and her music is something you can dance to.
Now, it was time to see the beautiful soul himself, Jesse McCartney.
Throughout the night, Jesse played songs from all of his albums. Some of my favorites were “Leavin’” and “Body Language.” It was a bunch of fun to hear those tunes live. From his current album, I enjoyed the song “All About Us,” which is a song I can dance to. It’s fun, upbeat, and has a light techno vibe to it. Another song that he played and I thoroughly enjoyed was “The Other Guy,” where he not only got to show off his vocals but his piano skills as well.

But, what made this concert extra special was that his family was there and got to watch him perform. He told us that his grandfather was one of his main supporters when he started doing musical theatre, and it was so touching to see him there celebrating his 90th birthday. That moment really made the concert that much more intimate and showed how much his family means to him.
Overall, the concert was a bunch of fun, and it was awesome to finally see Jesse McCartney live. Not only can he sing and dance, but he can definitely clean up quite nicely! To end the concert, he sang “Beautiful Soul” as his encore, which ended the night perfectly.
